Tailgate Struts For Wagon.

Recommended Posts

Stabilus are the OEM replacements. Scan-techs are also available and are cheaper but supposedly don't last as long. Which ones you go with depend on how much you want to spend and how often you want to replace them.

FWIW, I have the Scan-techs for about one year now and they seem fine. I may have to replace them in a couple of years but who knows.

Hello

I am planning on replacing the rear struts on my wagon (95my).

So who is a good supplier and what is a good brand?

I guess after 10yrs the originals weren't bad in the first place but going back to the dealer is usually costly.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Matt

I too have the scantech ones and they work fine but are significantly more powerful than the OEM ones. If you're not careful the gate can come up pretty fast and nail you.

IPD also sells a set for a bit cheaper than the dealer but don't know who makes them?

Matt,

I don't have a wagon but I have used the Scan Tech's on my 854 and replaced both within a year by using Stabilus, made by Sachs, from IPD. The second one failed a week ago when the plastic hook unexpectedly broke, causing my wife to think a rock had hit the car.

I have also had the Stabilus on my 744 for the last 6 years with no issues. While the Scan Techs my be ok, my experience wasn't the greatest with that brand. More food for thought.

Cheers,

I have heard that the Scan-techs are lower quality too so I'm not surprised that they failed early based on that. The Scan-techs are supposed to come with a one year warranty though so maybe you can get your money back.
