Dog Owners

In the future (next 6 months) I plan on purchasing a Golden Retriever and just was curious what dog owners think about having a dog with a coupe?

Things to consider:

I'd be getting a female golden retriever - which weigh about 55-65lbs usually.

The dog probably would only go on short trips (no more than 30min) and I'd rarely be going on long trips (which would be max 1 hour).

Or is this just crazy, I should get a sedan (which I think is pretty much the same as my coupe but just 4 doors) or a wagon...

well, truely your dog should always be cagged in a car. now if thats not going to happen i know my big lab loved being loose in the back of my wagon. letting them hang out the window is dangerous to them. Bugs in the eyes etc.

and to go even further its been to hot to keep a dog in a car anyway.

my pooch (75lb yellow lab)sits shotgun on the way to the dog park (15-20). If i was going any long i'd rather have a wagon and put him in the back.

My friend has a 140lbs English Mastiff and he rides i thinkin the back of her Chevy Cav. Coupe.

When I drive my greyhound around, she lays down in the back seat. You can't really lay down in the coupe because it has the hump in the middle. There's no option for the dog to laydown so I'd highly recommend getting a sedan. but maybe on the off chance that you get a dog that prefers sitting to laying down- hold on to the coupe.

For those of you who do put them in the rear of your wagons, might it be a little dangerous if you get rear-ended? I'd probably feel more comfortable if it were in the rear seats if I had a wagon. I can see how putting them in the rear is good, lots of space but in the event of a rear-end accident I'm not sure how good that would be.

i have a Lab/Husky mix and that dog does not even begin to touch my wagon...she sheds like a mother so i dont think her sheding and my black suade interior will mix very well...

i think that your coupe will be sufficient, personally i think the dog doesnt car what car its in as long as it can flap its tongue in the breeze.

but if you do wish to take the dog with you while someone else is in the car then you might want to think of the sedan or wagon so you have the ability to let the dog roam free in the back...

You don't NEED a wagon. I just lay a towel or blanket in the backseat and my dog lays right down. My mom used to have a 240 DL back in the day and she used to put the dogs in the back of the wagon. She then got a V70 and decided it was better to keep the dogs in the backseat within her reach in case of an emergency. If you're not into wagons, a sedan will suffice. But then again, your coupe might too. Only time will tell.

My female golden hates the car.... only dog I know that does.....

we usually keep her in the backseat of the wagons with a blanket, Ben the massive golden likes the rear cargo area.

With only 1 dog the backseat should be fine.
