A dog WILL tear up the leather with it's nails,so put a blanket down if it's gonna be on your seats. The Wagon is by far the best option IMO.Had a male Black Lab for years and I bought a Cherokee so he could sit, stand, lay down or stretch his legs if he wanted, and also for the ease of access.I also bought a grate for behind the seats, and I would either keep it behind the back seat for shorter trips or if my Jeep was clean, and other times I would fold the back seat down and put it right behind the front seats so he had more room and a window that was down.He loved that Jeep as much as he loved his dog house.

Edit:Damn..I'm tearing up here thinkin about my buddy.RIP Molson!

theres no reason to base what vehicle you get depended on a pet.

They sell specialty harness/collar that can be used to seat belt the dog down (highly recommended). You don't let kids ride around w/o a seat belt so why would you let your dog. If your dog dosen't like that option they have a mat you could buy that attaches to the rear headrest and the front headrest and becomes a kind of a hammock the dog can lie down in. It's more comfortable if the dog likes to lay down, which most of mine do, but it still runs a higher risk should you be involved in an accidnet *knocks on wood*. Whatever you do keep the coupe, and make sure you have a huge backyard or a dog park nearby, cuz labs have a lot of energy they need to burn off, if they don't get to they'll take it out on the house or your car seats. Ask me how i know... <_<

perhaps not, but people who care about the comfort of their pets may beg to differ...

when my dog was younger he would ride in the hatch of the wagon; absolutely necessary after he had played around on the beach or mountain and was wet and smelly. i can't imagine his stinky as$ all over the leather of the backseat.

nowadays, at age 14, he's slowed down a buttload and prefers the leather backseats :).

golden retrievers love the water, and you may be taking trips to the river, lake, pool, whatever. Considering you and your dog's mutual benefit, i'd have to recommend at least a sedan, or optimally, a wagon.

we had a minivan a long time ago and it was the best but i know volvo doesnt make those so a wagon is the best bet. i say keep the C and look for new cars so in case the dog dog (or you) doesnt like it you can change!!! we better see pics of da puppy!!!

I'll keep the C70 for now, once I get a golden I'll see how it goes...worst comes to worst I can always just sell the C70 and pick up a wagon.

I'll definitely post pics when the time comes.

Thanks for all the replies.

this is bringing back memories from high school with my first dog(we got him when i was 1 and he died my senior year) but after i got my 244 wagon i use to take him out on sundays and i always let him ride shotgun with me. he didnt shed hardly at all, the only problem i had was going around turns or sudden stops he would slide around on the leather.

damn i miss that dog :(
