GreenMachine
They look like 5.25's, is that correct? Also, after unbolting them, they are sitting in a plastic cone. Are the speakers glued to this cone? Can I just pry them off the cone and replace them with new ones? The reason for the dumb questions is I had maybe 10 minutes to look at things Saturday morning before the baby woke up. The rest of the day was consumed with children as well. Some of you can probably understand how that goes....I am going to replace the speakers but would like to be sure of the size before I order. It looks like the cone is basically the adapter ring as its bolt pattern is irregular. Thanks for your help!
Stormin Norman
The plastic cone is a water sheild. Kinda like an umbrella fer the speaker.
wattsat
Yes, they are 5.25".Yes, you can remove them. Before your order, please not that they are 8ohm speakers and not the Typical 4ohm.If you install 4ohm speakers and you are using the factory HU you may damage or break your HU. Especially if you have replaced your rear deck speakers as well.Everything I have witnessed for these speakers indicates that the Rears are all 8ohm speakers, wired in Parallel. This will make the HU see the correct 4ohm load.It is very doubtful that you will be able to find 8ohm 5.25" car speakers. Unless you buy some meant for Home Audio, because Home Audio speakers are all 8ohm.
GreenMachine
Thanks for the info. I just replaced my front door speakers with 4" Infinity Reference speakers with no problems. The rest in the car are stock. I was not aware of the ohm difference. I do intend to replace the rear door speakers with 5.25 Infinity speakers. I do not have an amp.Has anyone else experienced problems with the 4 ohm/8 ohm thing? Thanks again!
wattsat
You will not have any problems when you replace the Front Door speakers because they are 4ohms. It is all of the rear speakers that are 8ohms.Yes, this was brought up before.http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=4774
GreenMachine
Thanks again. So can I unplug the 4 tweeters and be ok with new 4-ohm rear door speakers? My new ones are 2-way so it should sound fine.

slarti
I have an 850R with the stock external amp.Can the stock amp handle having 4 ohm speakers in the rear doors? If not, is there a way to keep my stock head unit, but switch out the amp to one that could handle it?I really like the way my interior looks with all stock and I don't want to change the head unit, unless I absolutely have to. potroast
you can use an external amplifier. There are wiring diagrams all over the internet for doing this with the stock head unit.
