Matts 850 GLT
HelloWonder, what I will do? I was checking the oil 1/2 liter in 3000 miles is not bad. But there is a lot of varnish build up. When you take the filler cap off and have a look its brown, shiney and varnishey. So I went to the dealer who have serviced it the last 11 years, and they said its normal with poor quality oil, so when I showed them the service booklet, that shows they serviced and stamped it, they said it is bad driving conditions!!! Is it really true that the motor can run for 300,000 miles with oil changes every 10k??Anyway, engine has good compression and I will change oil every 3,000 miles. Any recommendations to cleaning out the inside of the motor or should I leave it?MattPS I am not dissin my dealer as they are very friendly and supportive but I am more and more convinced that the term 'full service history' means diddly squat. WhiteT5
Auto-RX is perfect for this sort of thing. I'm sure they'd ship to the UK.
MadeInJapan
Yeah, I second the AutoRx treatment. Do a google, read up on it and then order it if you're inclined. Just follow the procedure to the "T," and use it with dino oil and not synthetic. You can always go back to synthetic after the procedure if you want. NateB
Hmmm....varnish, depending on what you mean is normal.I have some too- and I am the original owner since 1995 and have used Mobil 1 full synthetic 1-30 exclusively every 5K miles.Again- not sure how much varnish you are seeing, but i have some as well. No sweat-and I certainly have no plans to run any additives thru my engine.
Geevs
Auto-rx removed the varnish from the cam lobes of my 855T. This was by doing a before-and-after inspection of the visible lobes through the oil filler cap.

I has also had Mobil full synthetic only the previous owner got it changed at the specified interval (10k miles) unlike your 5k, which i think is much healthier.I am hoping to realise a high mileage from this car by doing as much preventative maintenance as possble. How 'dirty' is you oil at 5k?
