prasamin
guys, it has to be 8", and it has to have a 5" or so mounting depth, PERIOD. This is for a project install, not typical.I think two 8" driver subs might sound as good as the IDQ12, but I need some words of confidence here. Also, are the kickers the square ones or circular? Owned
You might like an EU-700 or two in an enclosure up against the rear seat so you can still open the floor to get to the spare. You could also build an enclosure into the spare. What I would do for an 18 inch spare (I'm not sure what size you're going to use, just guessing) is put four 700's in a glass enclosure that sits inside of the face down rim. Use a glass bottom and glassed MDF top with a lip to cover the tire. Use some polyfill or foam to protect the wheel's finish. The Kicker 8's are nice. I'm into the pre-square Kicker gear, myself. Unless you're talking about the Solo-X.The JBL GTO is another pretty nice 8. You can get away with a .3 cubic sealed box. Vented is about double that. Also, if you're only going with one driver, you're not forced into DVC.You might also want to take a look at my MaxxBass thread, too. For a single 8 that would be perfectly suited. I couldn't stand to listen to it on my 15s.

Adam, what do you think about two of these? easy to wire a pair with a single channel mono amp? or should I look into the kicker or 700 still? prasamin
Blaupunct makes some slim 8" subs too for less in price, beware though the slimline subs can't play as deep I know it's going to be hard to get an 8" to sound like a 12" IDQ12, but there has to be something out there capable of it.JL 8W7-3 looks good, but 3ohm ? how the hell do you do that???as of now, the kicker solo-baric s8l7 looks like it might fit the bill the most...it's capable of handling some mean power for a little subwoofer...i just don't like the look of it...i know, petty, but look at the JL or a Focal or even the EU, and you'll see what I mean. Also, I'd have to figure out a way to protect the sub from getting hit...ie some sort of hard grille or something...it's just going to be in an enclosure in the trunk behind the seat, so it runs the risk of getting hit alot. Owned
I didn't want to bring up the W7, but since it's entered the thread, I think it's a monster as far as 8s go. It's taller than the cone is wide and weighs about as much as one of my 15s. Your amp will do 3 ohms no problem. It'll put out about 750 watts (RMS? I'm not sure if what you PM'd me was imaginary or RMS) at 3 ohms. If it's RMS you'll have tons of head room, which is nice. I'd feel safe giving an 8W7 400-450 RMS, too, so even if the amp only puts out 400 RMS (estimate from 750 peak) you'll still be good to go.Part of what you're buying with the sub is the W7 name, even still, this is one of my favorite series of subs. .The Pioneers are so-so. I heard one 12 and wasn't really impressed, but it did good enough. There's a lot of inverted subs out on the market right now. Audiobahn has those piston drivers that look fairly good on paper, though, I haven't heard them yet. I don't think they come in 8s yet, but the 10 has a 3 and change depth and the 12 has a 4 inch dept, IIRC. Critical Mass has a goofy looking, IMO, slim series out, too. One thing to keep in mind with these shallow mounts is the smaller the enclosure volume, the more power is required for the same effect. It's almost an inverse relationship, actually. Cutting your space in half will require almost double the power.
