8" Subwoofer Choices

Have you thought about CDT? ;)

small, excellent SQ.

I have heard 2 in my car on a set of DLS amps  great!

looks nice, I'll research it when I get home or something...i don't see the mounting depth anywhere listed.

I'm pretty much stuck on the RF Stage 3 or the 8W7 right now....I don't want square, and 8w7 may be impossible for my project, so we'll see if the CDT has a shallower depth.

guys, it has to be 8", and it has to have a 5" or so mounting depth, PERIOD. This is for a project install, not typical.

I think two 8" driver subs might sound as good as the IDQ12, but I need some words of confidence here.

Also, are the kickers the square ones or circular?

Why dont you try a search for a 8" made by Helix.. Its a german line 175 watt RMS. Sounds really good I have a friend with 4 in his trunk and it sounds pretty good but no 8 will ever hit like a 10 or a 12

yes, I know that no 8 will hit like a 10 or 12, but something can come close....I think the 8w7 is it, but damn that thing is Hugemongous.

Helix(Brax) is great too (for amps and compo's) and quite populair over here, but it can't match Image Dynamics or CDT for subs.

But does he want a pounding bass(SPL) or a musical(SQ) one?

W7 is a really nice piece. A lot of JL fan boys will go on and on about how loud it is, but the truth is, there are no major dB championships won with W7s. It's really not that loud of a sub. They do bottom out more than I think they should, considering the cost. JL has also changed the type of glue they're using now and it's not as strong as before. Regardless, I'd still run it in my vehicle.

Also, don't feel as though you're forced into mainstream subs. There are quite a few quality 8s available for under $100 that don't come with a big brand name. Tang Band 8s seem to do pretty well, considering the price at about $50.

The output of your subs is only limited by size once you've exhausted other output gaining vehicles. Proper install is key. ;)

Another option I think you might want to look at is a Sound Splinter RL-I 8 inch. They go for under $200 and are a dual or single 4 @ 300 RMS sub that I think does really well. Their Xmax is pretty beefy for an 8, at a touch over 18mm. It's a little long compared to everything else, other than the JL, though.

just looked at the Elemental design subs also....look okay too, I can probably do two of those in 8", and they may compare to the IDQ12

also wondering if the EU700 can be used to replace the DEI 6.5" component speakers I have in Bing's kicks right now?

They will probably give me a nice midbase, but will they sound as clear as the DEI 6.5" speaker powered by the RF 4 channel that I have?

You can use an eu700 as a midbass, sure. I'm not sure how the sound will compare, it would be kind of foolish to speculate about. I've never heard any of Bing's kicks or your car.

The only ED worth buying, IMO, is the EU700. I wouldn't recomend their other stuff. They're subs have a very bad history and the 18 they released this month was a complete let down. You can literally flex the basket with your bare hand. Their sound deadening line is also very low quality. Their amps aren't too bad, though.

cool, I'll stay away then! I might consider a pair of the EU's for the kicks though....we'll see, still need to figure out the sub first...It's so hard finding something that fits the bill in an 8"....
