Hey guys im familiar with Socket Wrenchs, the differenct sizes , metric and inches, Torque, . So mainly the basics. Im Learning more and more. But i just bought a Kit today from home Depot for $200 that came with a Husky Vertical tank Compressor. That has 1.7 hp and 220 Psi. Also it came with some other Air tools one of them which was a Husky 1/2 " Impact wrench. That has a max torque of 250 Ft.lb and a working torque of 60-250 ft.lb. I was trying to just use it to remove that Big 36 mm Axle Nut. I bought a 36mm Socket Nut like last week from Advanced Auto parts. I tired using it eairler today with a 1/2" Breaker Bar that i also got from Advanced Auto parts. But it was no use.

I tried using the Impact Wrench i just got and it didnt do anything either.... I also tried Removing the Lugs from the wheels and they also didnt move.. Is this just a Bad or cheap Impact wrench?? Do i need Special Sockets?? What is it that im missing here!!! Can someone please help me with this. Im new to these Impact Wrenchs and how they work. I thought it was just plug and play. I guess not.

Also if someone could provide me a link of where i could also learn about the different types of tools and how they are used and how to use them properly i was also appreciate that.

Thanks alot for reading.

Thanks again,

Orlando

I have used a Dewalt Electric impact to remove the 36 mm axle nut. Also I use it to do lug nuts & suspension work no problem, It not as noisy as a compressor & very compact. Home Depot also sells them for $179. I have not seen an application on my car this wrench has not been able to tackle it also came with a 1 or 2 year warranty not sure.

Well what are the Specs that Dewalt Impact Eletric tool can do??? Also do u need any special Sockets for it?? Or can u use regulaer Sockets from a Socket Wrench. Im not sure but the Sockets for Impact wrenchs are Black and the ones used for regualr Socket wrenchs are Sliver... isnt that Correct or is it the same thing??

Thanks,

orlando

I used the 36mm socket from Ipd, the rest of stuff is craftman, non impact stuff, never had a problem or broke a socket. I dont even use Wd 40 or pb blaster. One of my better tool investments, a lot of people will tell you air tools are better & they are. I dont need anything more than this in my garage. I can do axle, brake, steering & suspension work quite easily. Even used it for a trailer hitch install.

It's very possible that...

1. the el-cheapo impactdriver in the kit doesn't produce enough torque,

2. the compressor doesn't supply enough air (CFM's) to run the impact wrench "Hard" enough to develop max torque.

Hey, you get what you pay for :(

I have that Dewalt electric gun. I also have several sets of impact sockets. If you use non-impact sockets, you will bust them, or beat up the drive hole pretty bad.

I also have an Ingersol 231 air impact driver. 450 ft/lbs of torque WITH THE PROPER AIR SUPPLY. You need the proper pressure (125 PSI) WITH enough air flow (CFM, cubic feet per minute) An Impact Driver is an "Air Hog" that is, they need a large volume of air, at the proper pressure to work their magic.

i think the Air compressor is Legit, i really have a feeling its the Impact Wrench. I may go ahead an get a Nice craftsman One from Sears. They have a Heavy Duty 1/2 in one for $110 bucks which puts out 25- 450 ft.lbs Model Number is #18899 Or maybe the #19987 which is $90 bucks with a max of 350ft lbs.

Is there a way to test the Air compressor max sure its producing to its Potenial?? I mean the gauges on it are working and im setting it to the correct pressure. So how could i assure that?

Thanks,

Orlando

This is a pretty obvious thing to look for but on my impact wrench there is an torque adjustment screw with four positions. I forget if position 4 or position 1 is the most torque but you might take a look and see if you have it set to the maximum.

My Ingersoll IR 231C impact driver requires around 22 CFM @ 120 PSI for Max Torque...

what's your compressor put out? like 6 CFM @ 90 PSI. You can do the small stuff, but the tough work requires serious tools

"Air delivery is 5.6/3.8 SCFM @ 40/90 PSI" so i believe that means 3.8 SCFM @ 90 Psi. Most Average for the Impact wrenches are 4 CFM @ 90psi. So that shouldn't be a problem.

And Rp850 im trying to Take off the nuts / lugs. not screw them in.....

My cheapo wrench requires 5 CFM @ 90 psi to generate max torque of 250 ft-lbs.

I'm a little confused by your comment. I just looked up in my manual for my wrench. There is an 'Air Regulator' on the wrench with four positions. Position 4 generates the most torque I think in either clockwise or counter clockwise direction. Hope this helps.

"Husky" seems to be Home Depot's house brand for tools, and usually made in China.

As already said, fiddle with the "torque control" on the impact wrench. This is usually just a needle valve. It may be stuck shut, and you just need to open it.

Are you getting air out? Is it making any noise? Do you have the hose quick-connects fully connected? Does the air hose blow air out with another gadget attached?

Ken
