Cel Codes, Obdii

I saw in the pinned threads the codes for the 95 and later 850's

Does any one have a list of codes and the factory suggestions on what could be the problem or fix for the 96 and newer models?

I know that for at least some codes, the pdf manual that was just posted on this forum, has instructions for how to proceed to the cause of the code. I don't know which codes, but I was browsing and noticed a section that deals with that.

You are basically asking for a service manual, that pdf is the closest downloadable thing I have seen.

Yep, I would like to find one that is "volvo 850, 96'+" specific. I also was poking around that PDF file that Made in Japan posted. Great info in there but only goes to 95'. It's a hell of a lot better than nothing as most codes are the same...But not all of them :(

Yeah, unfortunately our codes aren't 3 digit codes like the diag. junction boxes give the '93-'95 folks. So, a basic OBD-2 code reader and the corresponding explanation for the generic codes is where we have to start. If you can't figure them out, just post them up....that's what these forums are for anyway, right? Like you, I do wish we had gotten the '96 manual rather than the '95, but still it's a good thing to have around.

if you can get the codes you can likely find your answer by typing it into the search box. if not, as was said you can always post it up and someone will help you out. there are lots of websites out there that will tell you what the code means also. though the explination might not be that helpful, it will at least describe and narrow down the source of the problem for you. something like a haynes manuel is also good to have.

if you post up the code I can search it in VADIS and tell youwhat it says to do.

P0440

I know its a emissions evap code, and I have replaced my gas cap, and checked my elbows on the intake manifold.

have you checked out the evap purge valve? it is usually the source of evap related problems. i think the p0440 code is mostly for large leaks, and the p0442 code for smaller ones (usually indicating a bad valve), however, replacing the purge valve fixed my p0440 code. this seems to be the experience of others on the forum as well.
