After driving somewhat the stereo loses power, amps/sub lose power, brakes jerk a bit, abs/trac lights flash then all goes back to normal. Once in a while it does it 3-4 times consecutively and the radio will not come back on. I tried to drive with everything disconnected to eliminate possible causes, and even with the stereo disconnected and it still happened. Tested the batt + alt and they both look good. Last few days I've been getting a dimming of lights (inside and out) even w/o any power hungry things running. im guessing the ignition switch is at fault here. If this is the problem, how much should this cost? My local dealer said about $90 for the part (although this was over the phone and they aer idiots) but fcp had it for $52. Seamus Posted August 25, 2006 Report Share Posted August 25, 2006 There is a bundle of small wires from the battery + cable clamp to the under hood fuse box. This cable will sometimes burn and get high resistance. This sounds like your problem. check the ends for visible burning... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
x.data Posted August 29, 2006 Author Report Share Posted August 29, 2006 Ok so i checked the wires you mentioned above, and no visible sign of burning. Lately the brakes have really been bugging out. The lights are coming on and off alot (abs, brake, and trac light) and every time I step on the brake pedal the dash lights dim/flash more. Even my turning signals make the lights dim/flash. All of these things r still happening even with the radio out of the car not only turned off. Does this still sound like the ignition switch? Is there a way to know for sure if the ingition switch is bad? I need to get this fixed ASAP. x.data Posted August 31, 2006 Author Report Share Posted August 31, 2006 So after some testing and narrowing down of things turns out the prob is the alternator. with 2 aftermarkt amps and a in dash screen/head unit do you guys think ill b ok if i just get another factory alt? or should i get it rebuilt to a higher amperage (how much amps)?
