Gt30 Turbo Setup Question...

DARKSIDE

Recommended Posts

I'm getting it for a fairly decent price...

Would this turbo be a good choice for me? What needs to be done to make it fit, and any other nessecary mods?

All info is appreciated...

Also, any VS'ers with the GT30 installed?

do you have rods? pistons? anything forged?

Curious as to what the "fairly decent price" is .

This will turn your stock rods into spaghetti at anything over 17 PSI.

Price: $850

Also, I'll install a MBC, or EBC to controll the boost and I would not turn it up past 17#'s if there's a risk of anything bending...

which is better though...Manual or Electronic BC

*Remember my car is a a GLT (LPT)

If new, that's a good price, if not... keep negotiating.

With a turbo that size, EBC would be your solution. Are you running internal or external gate? What injectors? Who's tuning it? bla bla bla

you'll have to machine the stock manifold's lip flat and fabricate oil/coolant feed/return.

My friend just put this turbo on his EVO, but he's said he'll take it off today. So, it's basically new, b/c he bought it new...

Well I currently have rge stock 13G setup so I believe the WG is internal...if not correct me...

Stock injectors...

My friend (the same guy) actually owns a shop and is definitely able to do any of the work including custom work, and has connection with others who own machine shops...I hope by *tuning* this is what you meant, and not ECU wise...

Why would I have to flatten the Exhaust manifold's Lip?

If you plan to keep the internals stock I would pick another turbo, a new Mitsu is a better choise.

/Mike

But if I am planning to do internals, then it would be a good choice right?

I mean I could always keep the boost to a minimum of like 15 or 17 b4 I do internals, and everything should be ok...

1. If you plan on using the stock manifold, you will have to either go with a 5 bolt flange and weld the top port to an external gate or just go internally gated on the gt30.

2. You will need much, much bigger injectors. Look into either blues or greens.

3. Be prepared to be without your car for a few days.

4. Tuning, I literally meant tuning as in ECU tuning. The rest I would refer to as fabricating.

If "planning" to do the internals (everyone on here is planning to do a bunch of stuff) then I would say get a 19T for the meantime. When you do build the internals, everything's coming off when the motor is pulled anyways. No point in doing it now on the stock rods.

Like Joseph said, if you plan on using the stock manifold, the turbo will need to have a 5 bolt turbine housing (for external wastegate) or have an internal wastegate.

What size turbine is it? .63, .82?

-modify the oil lines. If it was the ball bearing GT30R then you would also need to modify water lines.

-modify the downpipe connection/possible dump tube integration

-tuning

-machine manifold flange

1. Which is the best option? 5bolt flange or internal WG

2. What # CC's? Will the RC injectors from VMS work?

3. Being w/o my car, will not b a pro, as long as I'm boostin' by the weekend... :D

4. Stock ECU right now...Although I'm planning on flashing it, but it shouldn't be neccesary unless I want to the ECU to be able to handle the higher boost...*correct me if I'm wrong*

1. I'd say internal WG for ease, 5 bolt flange if he knows how to weld and knows what you're talking about.

2. CC are dependant on many variable, power level, fuel pressure, etc. Can't just say x CC.

3. Don't keep your hopes up.

4. Um... good luck keeping the GT30 at 7 PSI.

I'll find out what size turbine it is, and get back to you...

what's the difference when comparing the .63 trubine & the .82...

GT30 on a low pressure block...? Personally I'd reconsider. I like the stock ECU part too.

I'm not saying that I would put in on now with the setup that I currently have, I'd probably wait and get a few more stuff done b4 installing the GT30...

Also, wouldn't the ARP bolts help keep that head/block together...

*Again, thnx guys 4 all the info & help so far...
