Relative to the Bay 13 Timing Belt Replacement Procedure -

On the B5452 engine the timing marks are not at all the same as the 850 used for example/reference.

Also there is no reference to line up the cam gear marks.

Can someone tell me if I am interpreting what I see correctly.

Observation:

On the crankshaft - there is not a notch in the valley - there are two teeth that have a small v notch cut into

them on the back edge - wide end of the v toward the block - point of the v toward the serp. pulley.

Interpretation:

The valley between these is the gear locator

Observation:

On the engine block - just above the crank shaft- and slightly to the left there is a slight bulge - on this bulge is

a vertical mark -casting mark - perpendicular to the crank shaft.

Interpretation:

This is mark to line up the gear locator to.

Observation:

On the cam gears there is a vertical scribe line - approximately 2mm long on the outer edge of the gear face. On the

opposite side of this mark is an M.

Interpretation:

the vertical scribe is the cam gear indicator marks.

Observation:

When the crankshaft gear is aligned to the block mark the both cam gear marks are on the bottom of the gear

and they are perpendicular to the cam shaft

Interpetation:

This is the alignment point to start the belt replacement procedure on the B5452.

If there is anyone who can verify this please do.

Thanks

After further study - many turns - and the assumption that I am making the right call on the crankshaft gear locator I have found that I was wrong about the position of the cam gear marks. They point straight up - putting them on the top of the gear - not- the bottom.

Further analysis of the image from the Bay 13 t belt procedure revealed the "V" notch in the crank shaft gear teeth.

there is one showing in the image. it is two teeth back from the valley location indicated in the procedure.

Another interesting thing - I put the top cam gear cover back into position and bolted it down - and there are two notches on the underside of the cover that match this straight up cam gear alignment. I have to assume that this is not a coincidense.

I'm going to go with this and see. With the 3 tooth mis-alignment window I should be safe. I also notice that my exhaust gaer appears to be 1 tooth off - I will see how it oges before adjusting this.

Finally after alot of turnin', scratchin', and backtracing I have Results!

My first call on the marks and positions was correct. The guess on the timing cover notches- was realative I think. However as I found, the cam gear marks are NOT at the top of the gear when the crank gear is aligned - but marks lineup to these notches as the crank is turned - thus I did catch the exhaust being off by one tooth.

At any rate - long way 'round - and some rambling - roho is running better than ever @ 144k !
