Suspension Damage From Pothole, Where?

Got back from a road trip in my brothers 2005 s60, and had an encounter with a pothole from hell at the ohio welcome/rest-area offramp. Hit hard enough to bent the lip of the 17" thor wheels on the passenger side front and rear. No apparent balance vibrations, or alignment shifts and the tires only seemed scuffed. What areas should we be looking at for possible damage, or would did the rims take the impact only?

Another question is how well can Volvo wheels be repaired if it is just damage to the lip without throwing the wheel out of balance or breaking a band inside the tire? The impact happened midway between MA and WI, and nothing else showed the entire way back... not even air loss.

If you've bent the lip, your wheel is already out of balance. However, for you not to feel it, I wouldn't think straightening it wouldn't be to bad of an ordeal, although any repair to a wheel will have to be done without the tire on. Service center no doubt? Nice service, huh, and welcome to Ohio!

It is rare on shorter side wall tires but you can damage the side wall of the tire. Obviously check the outside of the tire but have the inside inspected as well when the tire is off for the wheel repair. That sidewall was pinched between the pothole and your rim when the rim was bent.

I hit a similarly hellish pothole here too, and it bent the wheel enough to crack it on my 850 w/ 15" wheels and a fully inflated tire. If it is not cracked, it is likely to be repairable, and sometimes even if it is. Be aware that the repair may not give you the same wheel finish and appearance as before - check the repair shop on this before you have it done..
