850 Engine Swap From 93 Glt 20v To 94 20v Air Pump!

I am going to be working on my 94 850 which has the air pump and whose engine is shot.

I found a donour 93 850 GLT which also has the same 20 valve engine but no air pump (that thing that comes out of the back of the engine just between the block and the firewall) Anybody needs parts from a white 850 with t-bone on drivers rear side?

I noticed that the exaust manifold connection to the cat. convert. for the 93 is only a 2 bolt flange ..where the 94 is a 4 bolt pattern.

My questions are:

1. is there a manifold that can bolt on the 93 engine and bolt on to the existing 94 Cat? I know that if you have an air pump the manifold is set up differently.

2. if i remove all the engine controls or CPU and replace them on the 94 body, will it work?

3. What other issues should i be watching for? MIJ mentioned that there may be different electrical connections... could these be overcome if i just take all the wires out of the donor car?

Thanks in advance for your help! Thanks MIJ for the suggestion!

I am going to be working on my 94 850 which has the air pump and whose engine is shot.

I recently put the engine from a 98 V70 into a 95 850 (both non turbo). The 95 had egr and the 98 did not. I used the intake and exhaust manifolds from the 95. I also used the front (under timing belt) engine mount and the knock sensors from the 95. Everything else was the same. The only reason for swaping the knock sensors was that the 98 had the 'upgraded' sensor assembly and I didn't want to modify my wiring harness to use it.

Not sure what problems you will have but I believe that you should be able to bolt your 94 exhaust manifold to the 93. Also, the hole in the exhaust manifolds are the same for the air pump or egr.

Good luck.

You should not have trouble with wiring and such. The differences I had were: different manifolds, the thing that a/c compressor, alternator, serp. belt tensioner etc. attach to, throttle body, then pcv system was different (e.g. no outlet hose to the head). I put a 95 engine into 93. You should use all the parts from your old engine except pcv system. Also note that your timing belt on a 93 engine will be due sooner than on 94 unless your 94 is before the change to the timing gear was made.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

can you help me by answering these:

1. I was told the exaust manifold with the airpump is different to the ones which dont have it.... so the 95 to 93 swap should be along the lines of what I am doing.

2. Are you telling me that the engine mounts are different for the 93 and 94?

1. Use your exhaust manifold and you shouldn't have any problems. I am only aware of two different manifolds: one has a tapped bung that is used for either the egr or air pump connections. The other has no hole.

2. I am not telling you that the engine mounts are different, I don't know. On my swap 98 into 95 there was a difference in the mount but the attaching points on the block were the same so there was no problem. Mostly wanted you to be sure to check it out before you got the engine in place and realized that there was a problem.

Agreed. The blocks are the same. Whatever attached to them maybe different. Engine mounts are the same. It is this big mounting plate I refered to that's connected to the block in the area where alternator is - that corner of the block. I could probably dig out a picture of it. I took pictures as I went along the swap.
