16V's are nice engines. For a 2.0L from the early 90's they have a lot of balls, and rev to 7k like nothing. I fyou can get one in very good shape, it will take a LOT of use/abuse. A 1.8L 16V head and an 020 trans with a bolt kit and 16v pressure plate will help too.

only problem is, the 020 is the biggest hunk of shit ever made. The syncros are weaker then Grants little girl arms.

i never heard of them having weak syncros, Greg...I had an 020 in my GLI...bought it with it in @ 85000 miles, and it was fine until about 180,000 miles.

I guess one could always swap out some gears from an 020 to another trans..no?

sorry, I'm thinking about the 02A Trans on the ABA motors. DOH!
