8501995
Hi,I am trying to replace my upper engine mount.I bought part 9434288 from FCPGroton (http://www.fcpgroton.com/images/9434288.jpg)I removed the old broken one (just used a hacksaw) but now I'm trying to put the new one on, but it just won't fit, it looks a bit bigger than the hole...Anyone installed this before and could give me some tips? Thanks a lot! Also, would driving a bit the car without the mount/bracket be a bad idea? stick70
Also, would driving a bit the car without the mount/bracket be a bad idea?yes,i usually do these at the dealership with a hydrolic press...sooo i don't really know how you can do itits prob the right size, it just has to be really tight when you put it in there
8501995
So that means I'd have to remove the bracket from the engine and have someone with a press put the rubber support in?
pfeener
First of all DON'T drive the car with the mount removed. The top of the engine will move around too much and may damage other components. The mount you ordered is indeed meant to be pressed in place. You can do it with a variety of means. There was a post a few months back about someone pressing it in place with a couple of gas pipe flanges and a long bolt. The other option is to buy a split urethane mount. It may tramsmit a little more vibration at idle but lasts forever. Same page as the other mount. stick70
id stay away from the solid mounts, lots of people talk good about them, im not saying they are bad, but i have seen more than one car come in the shop with a bent or snapped motor mount bracket, and in extreme cases, the bolts going to the head snapped off. My n/a had one in it when i got it and it was alright untill the bracket started bending. Just my 2 cents
FixerUpper
buy the cheap poly one took me 3 mins to installyou can definitely drive the car with the mount broken, I bought mine that waythat was a joke I wouldn't recommend itYeah get the poly one two day shipped and you will be rockinThe oem ones may last longer but if you can't put it in without a press WTF FCP???I love FCP but they aren't in the business of selling easy solutions, just parts
rp850
You have the right mount. The pipe flange solution link mentioned above works like a charm. The only suggestion I'd have would be to use a few extra washers. It makes the press more solid. Maybe I'm imagining this but one edge of the mount seems to be a little more tapered than the other. This is the side that needs to go in first. Also, put the mount in from the drivers side first. You can do this.Hi,I am trying to replace my upper engine mount.I bought part 9434288 from FCPGroton (http://www.fcpgroton.com/images/9434288.jpg)I removed the old broken one (just used a hacksaw) but now I'm trying to put the new one on, but it just won't fit, it looks a bit bigger than the hole...Anyone installed this before and could give me some tips? Thanks a lot! Also, would driving a bit the car without the mount/bracket be a bad idea? 8501995
Thanks a lot for your posts.I just used the technique described at http://www.___.com/engine_mount2.phpand it worked like a charm. It just went right in, didn't even need lube.Cost me the same amount in hardware parts and bolts than the actual car part, but it was fun to see it go in!Thank again. PharmD
You need to shop at a hardware store with a '100% satisfaction no questions asked' return policy. I actually used a great big bolt and some other washers and a couple pieces of 2X4 I sawed down and pressed it in. It's really easy once you get your act together.
