R Over Evo

It's just funny considering the fact that he wasn't even a full tenth quicker in the eighth and claims he did some "smokin" and that the Evo "got caught up in the dust."

Yes, I know that according to Dom, if you "Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning." So yes, in that run on video or whichever run you beat him...you win. Do you have any idea what that Evo would have done to you if the race was a meaningful I'm a follower/4-mile...even with a launch like that? Do you have any idea what that Evo would have done to you if he actually did launch? Do you really think such an occurrence is cause for celebration, now endowing you with a false sense in thinking you can "smoke" bolt-on Evos?

What most don't realize is that not everyone goes to the track to abuse their cars. stuff…no one that I know goes to a drag-strip to even “race”. Most go to get a baseline or see what they can trap. They are not out there to run a quick ET to run back home and tell all their friends on the message board. News flash: Evos (and STis, since the two are practically synonymous) are NOT intended to be drag-raced.

Had it been a real race (i.e. I'm a follower/4-mile), that same Evo driven identically would have made at least a 106-MPH pass (and I'll stress that this extrapolation is based on it being driven identically), while you'll barely do 98.

But enough bench-racing. You beat him, fair-and-square. And we all know that beating someone, regardless of by how much, equates to them being "smoked." Good Evo kill!

I would suggest a legitimate race is a race that the competitors agree on the rules before hand then run the race as agreed. That is what we did. The race was an eight not a quarter. Would a mile race be even more meaningful? What if it was a third of mile? When people race, there is a driver-car complex. How well the driver drives is a significant aspect of the complex. The fact is he didn't launch. I don't know if I would call for celebration. I found it revealing that you are so forthcoming with race-track comments when admittedly “no one that I know goes to a drag-strip to even “race”’. Do those same people go to bars not to drink and met people? Do they go to the theatre to not watch the movie? Perhaps you should expand your sphere of influence. Might it be you are affiliated with poseurs? I suggest to you that as many as 90% of the cars participating in a test & tune night at my local dragstrip are there to run as fast as possible. I was unaware that you were appointed arbiter of what cars were intended for. I fear I may be operating out of your parameters. Would you pleas submit a list of cars that you sanction for drag racing. I don't want to be out of protocol. You sound like a very intelligent person from whom I can learn much. What manner of vehicle are you driving and how did you obtain such speed? -mk

Anxiously awaits response from Joe...

Heres how I see it, in your situation, yes you won the race set out and agreed upon by the 2 competitors. But I dont see the eigth mile race as a sufficient competition for straight line acceleration to accurately judge the performance of each vehicle, I see a quarter mile as a more indicative medium to test a vehicles acceleration and the drivers skill involved in such a race.

<_< wtf ? This guy won his race. In my opinion 1/4 and 1/8 mile is about good shifting. For some people the ultimate thing. I'm more into highspeed races on the Bahn from 80-260 and others like to race around a track so why diss the guy for what he did ? In my opinion the underdog won becase the EVO should have killed him on the 1/8 and 1/4 mile ! It doesn't matter if the other guy had the better or faster car ! He was unable to handle it. His misfortune

And please don't forget that the Volvo is about 300 kg heavier than the EVO. Two complete different ideas behind this two cars !

It's cool that you beat him on ET but you're forgetting that

A: he didn't launch

B: he had 7mph on you by the end of it.

Last time i went to the track there was a modded Evo there which i went against a few times. One of the races is worth recounting here. At the tree, I smoked him with my measly 2.3 second 60ft. He didn't launch, just put it in first and went. On the timeslip he had a 3.8second 60ft. I was ahead for most of the race, maybe until the last 25 feet. Needless to say he passed me at 113mph. My trap was 96, his 115, my et 14.4, his 14.38

So what if I edged him out on 1/8th, I sure as shit got my ass handed to me as far as the race is concerned. He went on to make some 12.1x passes around 118 or so that night.
