maiku
I emailed them and they didnt respond to me. I was wondering if they actually zinc plate them for anti rusting. There are a lot of comments about them not being zinc plated. As long as someone else likes them I will go for it. Those seem like the cheapest solution to brakes.Grant, RS4's are pads made by Porterfield. SS lines dont expand as much when braking as the stock rubber lines do. They also are less likely to tear if something may just hit them.the hubs aren't zinc plated, so you'll get rust spotsjust paint themfor the price, i couldn't help buy try them out
Gioseppe
there isn't much of a difference between cross drilled and a plain rotor. chances are you won't notice any performance differences unless you are REALLY abusing your brakes.if you're gonna go with a stock plain face rotor, get brembo rotors. they have the highest quality and are superior to balos and ate rotors ANY day.if you want drilled, go with zimmermans or brembos if you can afford them. there is nothing wrong with zimmerman as a cross drill rotor, brembos are just more expensive (twice over).for pads, for best streetability and noise free performance, oem pads are just fine, but i prefer textar pads which are oem spec'd, they're just an option. they dust, they don't squeel, they perform. Keaton85
haha or you could be a poor guy like me and collect the random hardly used pads around the shop and throw them on there...
MadeInJapan
The reason I mentioned Zimmerman and not Brembo is because I've heard that they are made in Mexico and Brazil and who knows where else (China?) now and so you don't know if you're getting a good set or not until you get them. If I can be assured of a good set, I'd go that route. Thanks for your great response. I had also heard that there isn't much diff. between them and drilled. I probably won't notice things. 90% of my driving is highway (interstate) and I only boost the car up and let her rip a couple times a week for only minutes at a time. I'm an old fart (46) so it's not that important to me, but when I do, I want to be able to stop without much brake fade when I need to. More than that is probably the peace of mind that comes with knowing what my car is capable of and liking it.
Über855R
I will add my experinces with my stock brake upgrades. I added stainless steel lines. No problems with quality but getting the old lines disconnected required new brake lines from the master cylinder, it was a PITA but worked out okay in the end. Keep in mind my car is from canadia so there are some rust issues. I added the rotor upgrade from ipd with i believe 302mm slotted rotors and pbr metal master pads using the bracket to move the caliper out for rotor clearance. The install was pretty straight forward and the performance on the street was much improved. The feel of the pedal with the SS lines was much better, stiffer and more responsive. For street use I had no complaints and it seemed to stop pretty darn well especially in panic situations. Now, I took my car to thunderhill and found that my stock brakes were WAY less than adequate for track use. I say if you want to upgrade the stock braking system do so with upgraded lines rotors and pads, but don't expect much more than reliable brakes for everyday driving. If you want your car to ever see track time, go for a BBK. Here is what happened to my brake pads after one day of thunderhill, keep in mind these were almost new brakes at the time. Plus I actually burned the high temp caliper paint off the calipers. IPD was nice enough to send me a new kit for free to make up for the paint burning off.And I wouldn't worry about x drilled go slotted if anything since the heat is going to be a problem regardless if you are really hard on your brakes. JCviggen
Get heat treated rotors and GOOD brake pads. The stock brakes on these cars are never going to be great, but getting the right (expensive) brake pads and increased cooling will make them acceptable.I am on my 5th different set of pads this year. On the track Pagid blue has been the best so far. Porterfield R4-S and stock pads the worst. CTF racing-street pads were adequate. I am now giving EBC red stuff a shot because of their temperature rating and I didnt try ceramic pads yet. Biggest issue on the track is pad fade and extreme pad wear. MadeInJapan
Just bought the R1Concepts (raceconcepts) slotted and cross-drilled rotors (mr.ebay). Oh, and free zink plating! Their description never said they were Brembo's, but from what I've read here and other posts, they are, so I'm sure I'll be happy. From fcpgroton I got the oem pads with raceblue brake fluid and teflon shims. I should be able to do this replacement this weekend if everything gets here in time. Thanks for everyone's help! Cal3thousand
MadeInJapan,Get the Mintex red box pads all around. You'll love the bite!As for Rotors, Zimmerman sports are great, but if you're gonna slot, start with a GOOD rotor, i.e. Brembo. and make sure that its a reputable company that is slotting them.If you have 17"s, you could think about getting the 302mm rotors from the C70s (i believe, could be S70s) with the brackets from FCPGroton.Make sure to use lots of grease and new hardware to avoid any squeeks and possible re-installations.Cal
c70pete
How are the Mintex/TMD friction that FCP groton sells... ? would they be good with Brembo non-slotted non-drilled rotors?I'm also hearing good things about Textar pads...want to stick with stock 280mm rotors... just good ones + better pads + ss braided brake lines.. I'll run what I got for awhile and see how it goes. Don't need to spend any more money. Tonight, I also bought Turanza LS-V's all around...205/55/16 (original size perfo's) from the TireRack (discovered one bad MXV4- out of round....no wonder I was getting some vibration at about 70mph....and was tired of them anyway).
