I was on my way back to work right before 6 [i live a half mile away]. I'm going to try and explain this as well as I can.So I am coming up on a 4 way stop, where I will be turning left onto a short [about 75 foot long] merge lane to get on the main road [Rio Del Mar Blvd]. Before I proceed with my left turn, I let a minivan which I thought was going straight go ahead, and it turns right [onto the merge lane I was headed onto]. I'm already up to about 15-20 mph, and I look over and traffic on Rio Del Mar blvd is clear so I'm expecting this will be a smooth merge. Wrong.The minivan in front of me, instead of slowing down at the end of the merge lane and merging onto Rio Del Mar, slams on its brakes in the very MIDDLE of the merge lane [well before the end of it where most people stop]. I did'nt have enough time to think, so I slammed on the brakes and before I could do anything else I'm smashed into the back of the minivan.I'm physically fine but I'm about to fall apart mentally. I hold back, get out of the car, run to the minivan to check if they're alright. A younger Mexican girl, who I might add being very pregnant, is inside the car with her husband. They're both okay but shook up, so I tell them to pull into the parking lot of the grocery store I work at. I go slowly, as my hood pops all the way up, and my fender is rubbing the passenger side tire tremendously. A quick glance before I got back in the car showed no signs of coolant leaking.We park, check out the damage, and exchange info. They did'nt know their way around Aptos at all from the sound of it. Does'nt matter though. I slammed into the back of them, and that's all that has to happen for me to be 100% at fault in this state.When I tell them I'm calling the CHP to get a report, they said they have to go to the hospital so they won't be late for a appointment they had made prior to the accident. I called CHP and they said I'm SOL about getting a report done there, since the other party had left. So I have to go to the CHP office in the morning and file an over the counter report. Either way though, I'll still be screwed.My future is full of question marks. I don't know what to say. It's just a car, and of course it will get fixed. After that, I don't know. It's going to be hard getting back into a black V70R again. Some people say it's a curse or bad luck, and some of it has been, but in this case this is my mistake. And it's a mistake that will take a lot of sacrifice to fix, and the repairs go beyond the car itself. I've got some issues in my life that need attention. She can be fiuxed and all will be well again. Bad stuff happens in 3's... so there was the 245, the first R and now this... that should do it I hope.
