Off the topic a little, but how r u gettin the rica upgrade in Australia? I live in Brisbane and have tried to get rica but with no luck- unless i send an spare ecu overseas and back- seems risky! The better option might be MTE. They are based in Aus through vptuning.

Let me know how u are doing rica and what the cost will be!

Andrew

Hi Andrew, I looked into other remaps locally such as TME etc, but I wanted more hence the RICA. I am sending my ECU to the UK where it will be reprogrammed & sent back to me on the same day (plus actual postage time).

Price for the 304 upgrade is 400 pounds + VAT, 290 pounds + VAT for the 280 horse option.

Let me know if you need any more info.

If you need help shipping the turbo to Australia if purchasing it from Jack @ Erie Volvo, feel free to PM me if you're interested in having it shipped to me, and then to you. I'm always more than willing to help out our overseas VS members.

Thanks!!

i'd recommend to stay the heck away from erie ... last 4 turbos i've had come from them .. one was a 16t off a late model car(problem was having the water lines on the same side vs a stock setup) ok fine being they told me it was off a 98' car when it wasn't .. eh ... ok so next turbo they send it frozen .. i mean frozen like blades are jammed agains't the housting .... next turbo had a cracked compressor housing from them not knowing how to remove a turbo off a car w/o a big hammer..... next turbo they sent(supposed to be a 16t) was a TD04H-13c off an older RWD car ... when confronted they said its the same thing .....

I appreciate your advice. Thanks!

Guys

I ended up buying the new 16T off ebay for US$499, a pretty good deal really. There are still 2 left, so go your hardest if you want a brand new 16T for your Ovlov.

:D

Hmm, gotta the check the one I got from Erie. Funny thing is that they paint the comp side silver and the turb side a dark grey color.

A sure way to make old look new again...

do not trust them @ all .. the one i had while had little shaft play was rusted REALLY bad on the center cartridge on the turbine side...

and when i when i cleaned the paint off the compressor housing it was pretty ugly under ... aluminum doesn't stain that bad easy but it was a lot more effort to clean than it was worth

oh and when i got it the compressor did NOT turn because of the paint they sprayed into the compressor housing painting the compressor wheel ... took a bit of effort to get it to start turning and chew up a bit of the paint

Darn, I just checked mine. Seems like a couple of fins of the comp wheel are a bit bent. The turb wheel looks fine, though. Couldn't see any cracks on the comp or turb housing - maybe concealed by the paint. The cartridge looks quite rusted though. Also noticed the cartridge doesn't look "centered" on the comp housing side but the both wheels spin freely and hardly any shaft play. Took off the CBV and found a blob of grease in the opening - wondering how that got there. Are these "flaws" normal for a used turbo?

Mike, when you took apart yours did you rebalance the cartridge?

me?

sounds like they tryed to fix up the crap one they sold me and tried to resell it ... sounds like something they would do

and the cracks in the compressor housing was on the inside .. take off that snap ring and get the housing off .. it SHOULd slide off nice and easy ... if not then the housing is warped from them removing it w/ a big hammer(same thing mine was like as the pin that holds it in place and clocked right was bent and broken off)
