Account_Deleted_T5M
Ok so i had a long conversation with Inmotion about optimal tuning for an NA 850, and he said that i should not be running 87 octane in my car, and that the minimum is 91. He said that this is specified in the owners manual and the inside of the gas door. Is this true? I know most of the turbo guys run 91+ but for an NA too? I put this in performance as he said that after i get my ECU back i HAVE to run 91 minimum
bmcintyre
91 is all I use in my NA and have heard the same is "strongly reccomended" others say it doesn't matter. I would say this...when I first bought the green machine last year the first thing my dad said was to run premium unless I just really liked engine knock...and he hadn't owned a Volvo for 20 years!Bforgot......... pm me once you put the ECU in and tell me if it was worth it..B

Aequitas_Veritas
yeah, 91 is pretty nessesary, at least on the t5s, dont know about the NAs. I would run higher if stuff CA gas offerings were any better.
Che'_Moderator
It really doesnt matter. Find me some legit info that says modern cars have to have 91+ and I will be impressed.

Account_Deleted_T5M
Yeah and BMW books says I should only run Castrol. What do you think about after my tune? I think running is worth it to save my car.
Che'_Moderator
What do you think about after my tune? I think running is worth it to save my car.Unless the tune is a crappy one I doubt less octane will hurt. With that said why would you drop the skrilla for a chip and then not pay for the fuel they tell you to use. :josh:

GT2
Its not going to hurt to try it, the knock sensor and ECU will save you butt if there is a prob.

dnapunk
1996 850 NA has a rating inside the side gas cap door. Rating: 91 octane. I've been running 94 in mine because it's only $0.06 cents more by me. Although...What would the difference be with higher octanes than that? There's a gas station selling 87, 94, and 100 octane back at home.
JoshV70
Shiat, I run 93 in the 244 just because I can. It's hardly a price difference anyway if you think abou tit.
burchs1
I'm with Chuck on this one. I've had my 1995 854T for 7 years now. The octane gas I use doesn't make a bit a difference on mileage or performance. I'm sure 100 octane race gas would, but the stuff you can by at a typical gas station doesn't have any noticeable impact. I've used 87 octane gas since day one...yes I have tried other higher octane rated gas many times and never noticed any meaningful difference.
