Heater Hoses

I forget exactly how to remove them, but I do know you'll need a new fastener kit to re-attach them.

Be aware that fcp's kit has been found by others to be incomplete. Here, check this thread:

Ok, I figured it out. For the good of the community, here's what I did. I pushed the yellow clips together as I pushed in on the metal piece. Then I pulled out on the metal piece.

Once I had the lines out, I cut off the metal bands holding the hoses to the metal pieces. I used a 3" cutting wheel, a hacksaw will probably get the job done. I replaced the rubber pieces with pretty standard "heater hose" from Advance Auto. I connected the "heater hose" to the metal pieces with "hose clamps".

I bought ~5' of heater hose and 4 clamps. You should get 6 clamps. Might as well replace all of them. Here's where those extra two clamps come in handy. There will be enough heater hose left over to replace the little line going between the turbo and the coolant rail. You have to take it off anyway, no sense in putting old hoses back on.

I didn't buy the kit from Groton obviously. I've reused the yellow fastners with some new O rings that I bought in an O ring kit (about a million pieces for ~$8) from Harbor Freight. The "right" parts are only $28 each, but $56 for two heater hoses seems excessive.

Hope this saves someone a little cash and a little time.

Are the hoses that go through the firewall into the body of the car connected with quick connects? How do you get them to disconnect? The yellow plastic inside the black plastic.

I believe you can unclip them with a tiny flat head. DO NOT pull on them. The coupler is old and brittle and will definitely break. the black clip has two raised sections, you need to depress both of them to remove the hoses. Make sure you get the old orings out they will likely be in there, esp the outer one. The new hoses won't attach right with the o ring still in the coupler.

IMO even though its like 40 dollars, I would rec the new coupler with new orings from fcp. I was able to install without removing heater core or gas pedal. 15 minute job. I had heard it could be kind of a PITA but it was easy. That coupler is after all, 12 year old plastic, so replacing it really isn't a bad idea.
