Phil94850
i purchased a rubber type spoiler ( its black ) for my volvo 850 and the car is white. For those of you that know something about painting, can i get the factory paint in a can to paint this spoiler ? will a basic spray can white semi-gloss or gloss paint from the local auto parts match? being a rubber material what can i use to protect it from cracking after painting ? things like that...what do u guys suggest ?? Owned
You can't use paint from the dealer, it will crack as soon as this thing flexes. Besides, it's likely not to match anyways.
socal850tuner
yes u can buy paint from the dealer. But in your case it won't matter becuase the color of the rubber will show through the paint no matter the number of layers.

Oreo931
returning the spoiler.hahahahhathank you mesoam ...and the smart A$$ award goes to .....UNDERLORD can i purchase factory paint in a can from the dealer ??I am surprised no one has said this yet...www.paintscratch.comthey have everything you need, ive ordered paint in a spray can multiple times and have been very happy with the results. they will also add a flex additive if you request, and yes, you can get a kit with clear coat, and the spray...and primer if you wish but its just stupid imo to buy primer from them...came out to about $50 shipped iirc. Sometimes Volvo changes the color names and/or paint codes depending on what year your car is, but if it's white, it should be color code 189. The factory paint for your spoiler may not match exactly to the rest of your car though since it's been aged/weathered. You might also want to consider finding a good body/paint shop near you to match the color of your car and paint the spoiler. Otherwise, you can order the paint from www.paintscratch.com or buy it from the dealership. If you can send a color sample, try contacting the paint goddess at San Leandro Color; they're actually the ones that paintscratch.com sources tbeir paint from. San Leandro Color's website is down because they haven't renewed their domain, but you can phone them at 510-569-8236.I'd go for some sort of close match because it would bug me every time I saw that the spoiler didn't match the rest of the car.
