Sunroof Wont Open

well, at least it lets in some sunlight if you have the panel pushed back right! Just be happy it isn't leaky when it rains.... :( No sunroof ftw once again.

*knocks on wood*

No leaky roof yet. But I am pretty sure that once I get it fixed to where it will open, let the leaks begin.

several reasons it might not be opening..well from my experience anyway!

1. The motor under the dome light is not working

2. The sun roof switch is not working

3. The computer control/regulator in the dome light is not working

4. Something is jamming the sunroof glass (perhaps the weatherproofing is loose and jammed)

5. The levers which push the track up could be jammed or broken or both (highly unlikely both have gone at the same time though

6. Something is jamming up the track.

good luck!

Bringing this one back up.

Got into putting the new sunroof motor in but for some reason the motor wont seat all the way in. It looks like the cables have to be in a certain position to get the motor to fully seat. I went through the link kevin posted but that is to remove the sunroof but doesnt have anything on the motor itself.

Can anyone give me a hint on how to get this thing in there.

Its a worm screw mechanism and you have to fit the motor into it.. should go in easily but if its not in line you can use a screw driver in the center of the motor to move it till it matches. I removed a few of these and replaced them with no issues.. so should not be that complicated..good luck!

I picked up the replacement motor off ebay. It was out of a 96 and everything I read here and from what the guy I got it from said was that it would fit a 97. Apparently there is enough of a difference that it wont. The original one i had is obviously stripped. You can hear it spinning, but the one out of a 96 is so tight that it wont turn at all. It will move about and 1/8 of a turn and then sieze. But when its not bolted in it moves freely under power. So i am guessing I have to get a 97 specific motor OR there is something siezed in the worm cables themselves.
