MrLorence
Im not to sharp in the area of batteries and such, but i can tell you that im pretty sure that i need to upgrade. The reason, im going to be placing system in the volvo and i dont want to have lights dimPlus, these are top notch batteriesSo..Can i run one of them in the car as a replacement to the one thats in there now? Owned
Yes, you can run an Optima. No, it is not the solution to voltage drop.
CAPT_BLOTTO
upgrading to optima is a good choice.but you're doing it for the wrong reasons. Do you know your lights are going to dim?If they do look into integrating a cap or adding a high output alternator.
Über855R
I put in an optima simply because my battery kept dying. Since then I can run my battery for hours with minimal voltage drop. Yes I have a voltmeter. I run xbox dvd tv and music and haven't had a voltage issue or starting issue since the optima. It wasn't super easy to install, we had to remove the battery tray and reroute a couple wires to get the positive lead to reach but now it fits and is great. Wasn't really that hard either but wasn't direct bolt in for me. I think some of my auxillery wires were holding the leads so others might not have had that problem And if nothing else it looks cooler than a stocker. Plus I was able to lock it down with the stock tie down. Good to go.

b3atboxjr
we have the same car... get the redtop 75/35. it's fits perfectly in the battery tray, though you'll need to pull on the cables a bit to get them onto the terminals.
speedn_j
i used a 34R optima ..bolted right in but i had to use a different negative cable clamp
PharmD
Have you perhaps considered a capacitor? That would likely help with some of your lights dimming when the subs hit.

It would depend on why he's getting voltage drop.

speedn_j
well alot of people that have high power stereos use the yellow top instead of a cap. . the deep cycle part of the battery acts as a capacator and keeps the voltage stable while the battery itself is still designed to be used as a starter battery. People use deep cycle batteries because they lend themselves well to high cycle applications. Not because they "act like a cap." Also, your battery doesn't really do anything for your system untill the voltage drops to 12.8 and below. Anything higher than that, which it should be, is basically powered by the alt. The alt is also what is regulating the voltage, not the battery.Because the plates of a cap can store and release electrons very quickly, this makes them "smooth" power. A battery is much slower and does not have the same effect.

Number 14 is reiterating my point about high cycle applications. Good job, though.
