Phil94850
i know this subject has been covered about 1 gazillion times sorry... but... ive had my ride for about 6mo and the keyless entry has never worked. i can lock and unlock all doors and the security sys. will arm with the key but not the remote. ive done the key off /on 5 times thing to try and program the reciever and nothing. i removed my glove box and found the reciever and it was plugged up and is getting 12v to it like it should.i was reading my volvo manual on how to diagnose and i wanna make sure im right before i buy another... it says to remove the battery from the remote and check and make sure i have atleast 2.8 volts. heres my question.. i have a digital volt meter, i set it to 20 DCV and checked the reading and im getting 0.43 so if im reading this right my battery for my remote is showing less than a half a volt ?? if so... my battery for my remote is dead ?? i just bought it a few months ago shortly after buying the car. I wanna make sure im checking the battery with my ohm meter correctly. thanks for any help !!

I wanna make sure im checking the battery with my ohm meter correctly. thanks for any help !!Find a known source of voltage (12 power supply or 9 volt battery are examples) and measure it. If your reading matches the known voltage, then you are doing it correctly. How much is a battery for the remote? Just buy another one.Let's not make this overly complicated, ya know? Chopper
$3 for a new battery at radio shack. If it still dosn't work, it may need to be reprogrammed. This is also easy on the 850, it takes about a 3 min proceedure.
Phil94850
i had a brain fart LOL.... i took a battery out of my wifes remote and checked it and it show like 3.5v so i know my battery in mine is dead. figures, id buy a dead battery... anyways... im gonna go buy another and try to get the keyless working.ive read.. that after turning the key on and off 5 times the light in the center of the dash is suppose to come on telling you the reciever is ready for programming, mine does not do that. ive also read where nobody mentions anything about the light. on my repair c.d. it doesnt say anything about the light either.. Chopper
"On my '97, you just turn the ignition on/off 5 times, leave it on the last time, and press the remote. done. The remote isn't re-programmed. The car learns the remote. "This is from another website. Also, this proceedure should be in the owner's manual. In my experience it can take 2-3 tries to get this right.
