Volv0wn3d
so i went to circuit city today to get a new head unit. i picked out a nice one by panasonic and asked them to install it. they looked everything up on their computer and said "im sorry but you're car has an amplifier so we would have to rewire the whole system. it would cost about $425 dollars to do." Free installation my *ss!i have a '95 850 (not t5 or glt or anything. just the regular 850) it came with four speakers(plus 2 tweeters) and no cd player.is this a legit problem or is it just a bunch of BS?thanks in advance for you're advice :)

Volv0wn3d
i could install it myself but it would be easy to get all of the parts from circuit city.i really want to know of an amp would even affect the head unit installation
The Big Tuna
wow go to car toys if you really dont want to do this yourself, thats a monkeyin rip off. it should only cost about 40-50 to get a deck put in not that much no matter how much wiring is needed. i got a quote to do my last system from car toys and the whole system install was about that much
96PlatinumEdition850
I got my 7'' touch screen DVD player off eBay for $550 shipped and picked up the harness and din pocket for $30.00 at Best Buy and installed it myself in about an hour and I had no experience with car audio. I just followed Bings write up on the forum and figured it out myself.
Volv0wn3d
so is this claim of an amp just a bunch of BS to steal my money?
The Big Tuna
so is this claim of an amp just a bunch of BS to steal my money?it does not matter if you have an amp or not. no matter how top of the line deck you have you can still run your speakers off of and amp or just your deck it does not matter unless your speakers are really nice and require more juice than your deck can give. if that did not make any sense, it does not matter amp or not, they are monkeyin with you, that is way too much money to just run wire for a sedan, they are bs'ing you

TheMan5952
There was a whole write up about how to do it. No place will install it for free on them, they all claim they need to be rewired. All you need is a harness and trim kit. Only the premium sound ones had the external amp. You can get one from Crutchfield or Scoscheit does not matter if you have an amp or not. no matter how top of the line deck you have you can still run your speakers off of and amp or just your deck it does not matter unless your speakers are really nice and require more juice than your deck can give. if that did not make any sense, it does not matter amp or not, they are monkeyin with you, that is way too much money to just run wire for a sedan, they are bs'ing youThey mean that they have to wire around the facotry amo since the factory amp plug is non-standard and will not plug into an aftermarket deck. AnthonyR
Go back to Circuit City and tell them to call 1-700-333-3743 and ask for Anthony in the roadshop. It pisses me off when Circuit City's pull that shit and don't know what they're doing. (I manage the local Circuit City car audio shop in Maple Grove here)
Owned
Classic move. You must have sent up a sucker flag and they're trying to line their pockets with the install charge. The local CC here is well known for that. Before they got in trouble, I knew of two installers that were making $3,000+ a month by doing this.
