trance42
I have never installed a clutch before. The pilot bearing spec sent has a smaller inside diameter than the bearing behind the flywheel. Is the bearing behind the flywheel a pilot bearing? The factory manual does not say anthing about a pilot bearing in the Clutch assembly Chpater.Larger picLarger pic
Oele
I have never installed a clutch before. You can see the stock 'bearing' (ring) behing the clamp, you can leave it there...I don't think anybody has used the Spec bearingThis is my recently died flywheel and Spec clutch
EricF
The m56 doesn't utilize a pilot bearing, it's just there for show. Mine is rusted frozen. The input shaft ends at the clutch and doesn't have a section to center in the pilot bearing...I wouldn't worry about it :)
trance42
album/larger picsI put the new pilot bearing in. It is a little taller than the stock metal ring. The inside diameter is smaller but fits the tip of the imput shaft on the tranny. There was a little lock ring holding the bearing in. My flywheel was resurfaced before the last clutch and has only gone 10k miles or so. Should i get it resurfaced?I realized the torx bolt holding the clutch on needed to be replaced because there starting to round out so i didnt get to put it all back together today. prasamin
you don't need to use the pilot bearing....stock or spec.
Oele
My flywheel was resurfaced before the last clutch and has only gone 10k miles or so. Should i get it resurfaced? No, you have a full sinter spec clutch plate, this will eat-up easily the flywheel when you allow it to slip, resurfacing is useless with this harsh clutch... trance42
Michiel, I see in your signature that you also have the spec 3+. How do you like it? How is it on everyday driving.
Johann
My flywheel was resurfaced before the last clutch and has only gone 10k miles or so. Should i get it resurfaced?Just check if it is level, no high spots which have been burned/discolored.
trance42
Nothing like that. It looks like it was resurfaced before the last clutch went in. At most 10k miles. The surface that the clutch was on is shiney. almost no ware.
850turbo
Spec 3+ is good stuff in my opinion. Drives good once you get used to it. Only thing that kinda gets to me is when the car has not been driven (ex. in the morning) the car squeeks when you start driving. Then goes away after a couple of shifts. Only thing that kinda gets to me is when the car has not been driven (ex. in the morning) the car squeeks when you start driving. Then goes away after a couple of shifts.Just finished today. The pedal is not as hard because I went from a double sprung pressure plate to just a single sprung plate. Only drove it a little but it feels pretty smooth. Thank god its running again!
