Trip To San Francisco

Recommended Posts

NWC guys I need your help. A NE member and his mom are coming over to your side. My mother and I are going to take a trip to San Francisco for a week in January and we're wondering what there is to do, see? We're probably staying at the Radison in Fishermans Wharf. We'll probably stay in/around San Francisco for the most part but might rent a car for a day or two and take a trip outside of the area. Just looking for some info on what there is to do.

Thanks guys

-Jeff

SF has more to offer than you can imagine. It really is a city of a million things. It's crazy multi-cultural... be prepared for culture shock.

indeed it is.

you can come down south to santa cruz for a nice day trip, monterey even.

Yes... the culture shock. Ask sam (notyourspoon), he's a minority here :P since he came over.

There plenty to see. Heck I live where the cable cars run up the hills... in the middle of tourist land. So if you're riding a cable car and see a grey 850 with a blue norcal sticker in the window.... ;)

Yeah, the NWC cant help ya around the Bay Area, but we can :) January might not be the best time to come out here as the day trip regions (Santa Cruz, Monterey, Sonoma/Napa Wine Country) are all getting pretty heavy rain most likely, but this year might be dry, who knows, its been warmer than usual the last fwe weeks here.....

There's touristy places and nice subtle places. Kelvin gave me a great tour of San Fran when I first got here (thanks Kelvin). Twin Peaks is a nice place to hang out. I've enjoyed walking around Powell Street and the busy city. Although it's a huge tourist attraction, I highly recommend visiting alcatraz. Bring warm clothing!

In my opinion, renting a car may be more trouble then it's worth. You can get anywhere in the city via the Muni and Bart. It's a great city. Not like B-more at all.

Winter is a great time to visit the wine country (North of SF). The tasting rooms are dead that time of year, and the staff can actually talk to you. If you decide to do any wine tasting, PM me and I can hook you up with an itinerary.

BTW, we are not in the NorthWest. :monkey:

Mission District: Bombay Ice Creamery.

No matter if it's january and raining, this homemade ice cream with flavors ranging from saffron, to rose to cardamom, is worth it, and you can have lunch for cheap too with a Samosa Chaat (Before ice cream, it'll make you want ice cream, it's a curry dish for like $2.50)

There's also of course the views of the city and bridges, bring your camera.
