elfnmagik
New front rotors are warped after about 15K. Got worse and worse along the way and I can't stand it no-mo.I noticed FCP has a note that they're carrying Zims and Brems only made in Europe now. Not looking for performance so I guess it would be a coin toss between the two or do the Zimms still seem have the edge amongst members? For the money though, what is the concensus on these? I don't really need the rears (knock on wood).

It seems weird that you would warp new rotors that quickly, is your front suspension stock, it could have an effect on it. I usually let off the brakes (when I can) if I see that I'm going to hit a bump, I tore up rotors on a GTI that way before.
elfnmagik
Everything's been replaced on the front end except the hub and rack. New rotors/pads/rebuilt calipers/lines were all done at the same time. Rotors and pads were broken in correctly. It started showing up about 2k later and has gotten worse over time. elfnmagik
OK. I just ordered these, but fronts only.I'm thinking about going with either Hawk HPS or Akebono. Good match?
maiku
warp rotors could be a sign of bad wheel alignment, or overtorqued lug nuts
elfnmagik
Neither of which is my case.

elfnmagik
Yup. Everything by the bookCan't remember right off hand what the pads were but I got them from FCP. They don't carry them any longer. The last vehicle I had that suffered from similar problems was an '01 Outback wagon. The dealer threw rotors at it like there was no tomorrow. They never were able to find the source. It might be interesting to see a poll on how many people have had a simlar experience with new pads/rotors that went south within a short time. Anyway, I'm beyond that at this point and have already purchased the new rotors and want to know what others think about the pad combo's I've mentioned. Thanks. Mesoam
Almost sounds like you have PBR metal master pads....They are a known to warp rotors due to the excess heat build up (yes even with your drilled rotors)

Torquing your rotors down onto a warped surface will cause them to conform to that surface. It's like a warping factory at that point. Are both your rotors warping? beachnut
I had that same problem with eBay Brembo rotors and Ebc greenstuff pads. I did everything by the book as well, done many brake jobs before, but they warped in no time. I'm like 99% sure it was the pads. Now I'm on Zimmermans with PBR Ultimates ... I have a very, very slight warp but it's only noticeable at high speeds. Next time I'm swearing off drilled/slotted rotors and getting solids. MadeInJapan
I'm glad I always stick with OEM pads (though dusty). I've never had warpped rotors....have used solid Brembo, Zimmerman's and some cross-drilled & slotted Brembo's.
beachnut
True, I'm going back to oem pads too. The PBR's are noisy and dust just as mcuh.
