ThaBigO
Hey guys i have been thinking about getting a new car. I want to stay in the Volvo Family and get an S60R. only problem is the budget so a new one would be out of the questions. I found one kinda close to me which is an 2004 S60R for sale with 70k miles. The guy said that its mostly highway miles. The only problem with the car was that something happened to the Flywheel which got worse and caused the Transmission to go bad. The Flywheel, and transmission were replaced around 3 months ago. The car also has exteened warrenety for up to 100k / 7 yrs. The Transmission problem was 5 grand out of his pocket ( I'm not sure why Volvo didn't cover this). But anyways I'm going to check out the car this weekend for a Test drive to see how it runs. What do you guys think about this? Will it be worth it. I'm not sure if we can discuss prices on here but what do you think a Fair deal is for this car with such high mileage??Thanks,Orlando

ThaBigO
Well I saw the car today but it was already dark so I couldn't get a full look at it. I took it for a little test drive and i noticed that when I press down on the Clutch it does seem pretty hard. (I guess that means it’s kind of new). He's going to be giving me the paper work soon so I can see what service and repairs he got done at the Volvo Dealer. I will also call the dealership to verify it tomorrow. When I asked him about the Transmission problem he said that it was the Flywheel which was the problem which LEAD to the Transmission to fail and that the Warranty would not cover that.I negotiated down to 18k for the car. I still think it’s a great deal but once again it’s a lot of miles for a 04' I really want to get the car professionally checked out before I commit to purchasing it. I really don't want to have any problems with the car. Only other thing I noticed was that 2 of nice 18inch Pegs had some curb scratched which he blamed on his wife. Those scratched made me sad So i have a lot to think about in the next couple of days. He needs to sell ASAP since he's getting his other car some time in the end of this coming week. Thanks,Orlando

Now consider this, a dealer must have offered him less than the 18 because if he has bought another car why wouldn't he have traded it in on the deal. go lower my friend. get all the options and find somebody with the wholesale black book and look up the value.mike
ThaBigO
I have a lot of thinking to do. I really want to know what Whole sale price is for this car (where can i get this?). And how much the Dealer ship was going to offer him for it as well. Anyways i got the Whole service report of the car. I think almost everything was doing at the Don Beyer Volvo dealer in Dulles, VA. As far as the Transmission part heres is the info. 04/10/06 Customer states the Car will not Shift in or out of gear.Cause: Technician states the Clutch release bearing has damaged the Clutch salve cylinder causing clutch failure. Clutch contaminated with fluid, fly wheel hotspotted and transmission drive sleeve worn out.Correction: Technician replaced clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, release Bearing, and transmission.Along with that there are like 20 minor other complaints that the owner made and that were fixed at the dealer.Exp. 1)"Customer states ABS light is on - 10/26/2006- Technician found the left Front Drive shaft to be lose. Tightened the left front Drive shaft.2) Anti Skid light is on - 07/12/2006- Technician replaced the main brake pressure sensors.3) Customer states DSTC light has come on - 06/02/2006-Vehicle revieved with DSTC light off. Code for Pressure senor. Senor test good at this time.4)Lack of Power from Car 03/03/2006- Turbo boost pressure sensor Needs replacement.5) Customer states that the DSTC waring ligth came on a week ago . when car was restarted meesage was gone.- Tech cleaned brake pressure sensors.Theres a general idea of the main issues that the car has had and was taking to the VOlvo dealer for service... what do you guys think??Thanks,Orlando

Frustrating bugs but not unsolvable. A clutch replacement can happen, every car comes with a history for that matter, but it depends on the quality of labour. Only a testdrive can tell. The R's have their little things, Main worry with the clutch replacement IMO is the state of the angle gear spline ring. If this ring isn't installed in the proper way it might damage the gearbox and the angle gear, the gear driving the rear that is.Maybe you can get extended warranty on the repair. Mogatu'r
Honestly, about the extended warranty not covering a Volvo part seems fishy, they do cover just about EVERYTHING in the car I believe...price seems fair but negotiable, so you can def ask for lower, or check out your options, keep in mind # 1.Good car with extended warranty a plus # 2. Luxury car w/o a lot of $$$ ++ so... just keep that in perspective,Good luck
flyfishing3
according to the Pa edition black book offical used car market guide, june 19,06s60r=20,650 now though minus the miles=3150=17,500 is about the wholesale value. at least you know some of this cars history so its up to youlike johann said i'd be nervous about the angle gear with all the other things that have gone. if your handy maybe, if not try the extended, if not its your choice.mike
Trunks850R
dudes not tellin you something about why the warranty didnt cover that. either A, its a cheap ass warranty, or B the customer screwed something up and the warranty wouldnt pay for it due to abuse. sounds like the car has had a hard life just my opinion, its not like i sell extended warranties for a living or anythingEDIT: wait a sec, i do sell extended warrantys for a living
