V50 Handling

I Did Some Testing as, I live On a Twisty Bit of Highway , First I'll say I Tested Three Sets of Tires and Three Different Air Pressures !

Tires 1. Mich. Mxv-Plus's H Rated

2. Mich Hydro's T Rated

3. Comp T/A - Traction H Rated

Air Pressure Test One - 30 Rear & 34 Front

Air Pressure Test Two 34 Rear & 40 Front

Air Pressure Test Three 28 Rear and 38 Front

First Impressions are this Mich Mxv's rode a little hard , Mich Hydro's Quiet and smooth , Comp's Traction - Noisy and Heavy

800 Miles each set , Plenty of Curing and Testing , at All Speeds and G - forces !

Turns Out Comp's are up to 3-4 lbs more Heavy then most , This is for the All Season Type Tires , the Mich's were Average for Weight, but way Quieter !

Surprizing the Mich. - Hydro's Rode the Best and were the Quitest 800 Wear factor , so I thought they would Suck on Cold Wet Roads.

They were in fact better then all the H rated Tires I Tested, the Sizes are limited , but very good Tire.

Comp T/A's handed Better with Air at 28/38 , Hydro's did best of all , in Wet and Dry Curves at 34/40

Mich. MXV's Plus are Average Tire for most of the Masses , but not , Auto Buffs ! I was albe to get V50 to Balance Out with MXV's 30/40 psi.

but still rode hard !

Bottom Line : Tires , Tires , Tires Make all the Differance ! then just Air them to Your Ride !

ps: I Brake Tested the Hydro's they also Stopped Excellant , so the 800 wear rating is not affecting braking !

Good luck selling this crowd on tires. Half the people here buy the cheapest tires they can find then drop 2k on coil overs

Never been a big fan of Michelin car tires. I just got stuck buying two Pilots for the BMW though ><

Those are real expensive , but Handle Better then the Hydro's at the all out Edge , P Zero's are the way to go for all

out Handling and light weight , but for all around use in Up state NY in the mountain , Michelin Alpines work great

as I ran them in the Summer , Thinking that 90 degree days and Hot Hard Driving was going to Melt them !

Thay Held Up , got 44,000 miles from them , the Bridgestones , no matter what I did the Tires Just kept getting flats

on the smallest of items , Firestones they have a tendency to Flat Spot - Permenitly !

Now another Great Tire Is te Avon Tech 550 , W Rated , Great Price and Handles Better then the Pilots !

Yeah I got screwed. I had a blow out and not a lot of tires in stock in 285/30/18. I run Toyo on all the weekend machines and try to run pirelli on the drivers. Here in FL UV/heat kill my tires before the miles do.

Chuck,

Any particular reason why you don't like Michelin?

Michs are like Amsoil IMHO. Both Mich and AMs have a good product. But sooooooo many people are like Duder! Pilots are soo the sex. They cost me like 400 dollars for one so they must be the best

Most Mich tires are good tires. Pilots for example have good wear. So do lots of tires. Pilots are decently sticky and stiff. But they are not a high performance tire by any means. IMHO a Pirelli is just as good. There is no reason for a Pilot to cost the same as say a Corsa or RA1. Michs are always quiet though. They do have that going for them

 I forgot the Rest of the Data !

Comp T/A's held raod very well, but NO warning Near the Edge ( No Audilube sound ) Could Feel It in tyhe Streeing Wheel.

Mich. MXV Plus , Screech Near the Edge , but edge comes Up Fast and Intinal Tune In Is Slow , so Almost always over the Yellow Line by a ft.

Hydro's Crip Turn In & Tight - Limit is Much Higher then You would Think .

Avon Tech's 550 Are Super Quiet and Hold Big Time , more then the Hydro's and Wear has been really Good , Can't Beat the Price !

Turn in on the 550's Tech's Is Spot On - Just Feels Right !

I had a set of Genera Exclaim UHP's on for the summer and I was extremely Impressed with their grip. Awesome lateral G holding. When you get to the edge of traction, they let you know through the steering wheel. I think my max braking force on these was something like 1.06 G

The only bad part is they only lasted me 8K miles, + two 15 pass trips to the track and one massive brakestand / burnout at the end of the season :(

They did save my bacon last night - a yokon driving a good bit slower than me pulled into my lane, I look over my right shoulder to see if it's clear to weave around him and I look back this fuckface is stopped. I slammed on the brakes, and even with virtually no tread left and the rain, I managed to stop about 3 inches from his bumper. Somehow the guy behind me managed not to hit me too so all is well. I just had my Bf goodrich TA T's put on. Im just hopng they do ok in the Snow and slush Rochester NY is subject to.

That was my 850 from 60- like 10 or so, highest recorded decelleration force. I wish I had a cart though...where can i get one!

Ebay. Get a used one and tear down the motor. 3-4k you can get it running well. 0-60 will be in the 3s at that price range, but you should be able to do 3+gs in the corners.

Ya, Being Up State , have to have the All Seasonals or Two sets of Wheels , Try the Avon Tech's 550's

You will like them www.TireRack .com and look at the Test Pages for each Tire , very Interesting Stuff

Speically the Winter Snow Ratings , as good as some Snow Tires !
