Game System In The Car?

Well, I was talking to someone on AIM about this, they just put an Xbox into their car, and I believe that it was Xplod850 (cant remember exact name) but was wondering if anyone else has put a game system into their car.

I figure if it was cheap enough, I would consider putting one into my car, I have a PS1 and a N64 that I could put in, but I don't have a screen or power hookup to be able to do this with.

I was wondering what sort of screen would work, how much I would be looking to spend on it, also for a way to get them the power.

For the power, just get an inverter, and mount it real nice somewhere out of the way, like maybe under a seat or something.

Yeah, that was the first thing I though about actually. I hate having a messy car, or messy looking, so mounting was my first thought.

screen, depending on quality and size, $150-$1000

x box $199?

inverter $40

there u go...

Well, I wouldnt be doing an Xbox, I would use what I have, since its in my house just collecting dust, literally.

Seems like I have the power figured out.

Just need a good suggestion or reccomendation on a screen.

biggesthing to remember is that often, when you use really cheap power inverters, you get mad noise coming out of your stereo system hehe

but in general, its not hard, if you already have a a screen of some type and an input on your headunit, its quite easy, 300 total with everything I would say...

Well, I don't have a screen of any type, and right now I have the stock headunit ;)

Yeah technically you just need somethign that has coax in, or rca in, screen wise. I used my hand held tv, by making the antenna in jack(looks like a headphone plug) into two rca ins, then hooked my ps1 upto it. It was awesome hard to see but awesome heh. It is only a 2 inch screen anyway hehe. I don't have it connected any more, wasn't worth it. Check crutchfield.com or something for a simple screen, you can even look for the head rest ones. They have alot of different kinds like ones that span between both of the seats, or ones that mount onto the headrest, not into the headrest.

good luck :)

Actually, I was hoping to put it someplace up front, not in the back, but not sure where up front would be a good place.

I thought about in the center of the dash, that big empty flat spot thats a shelf almost, but then flipping it up wouldnt let me see the road ;)

You might be able to custom fit, just an lcd screen into the 2 din slot for your radio and stuff. What you could do is take the radio out, put it somewhere else like the glove maybe, or the console(if you have room there) then you could fill the 2 din gap with a screen, I know you could make a custom insert for it fairly easy.(for the radio, you might also go aftermarket, and go 1 din so it is smaller

I remember a V40 with that done to it. Looked awesome

If you don't use your glove box you could easily fit a flip out in there

Awesome ideas, it actually just gave me another one. I could use the existing space, the 2 DIN pocket for a screen. The remove the ash tray, and put a new headunit there, that way it would still be easy for me to access while driving. I don't know how to do custom work like that though.

^get a dremel... :D

I know that kenwood makes a double din reciever screen... maybe you could go with that and cutting the ashtray spot up shouldn't be too hard at all.

Gotta love not smoking :)

I think the hardest part would be making a set of mounts for the new headunit to mount it right in there.
