PK44
I'm looking at a 1999 S70 with 98,000. Can I expect the same 100,000 problems ( fuel pump 110,000, cv joints ac evap, oxy sensor) that I've had with my 95 850 wagon? Are they good in snow with four good snows? Did they fix the AC? Car is for my daughter who has a late night commute. She's driving a 90 740 with 170,000. Very reliable but sucks in the snow. Looked at Toyotas and Hondas based on reliability. They maybe reliable and cost effective but give me a solid, comfortable, safe Volvo any day. I can deal with the higher cost of the upkeep. Any help or advice would be appreciated

Andru365
I have been researching getting my fiance a used volvo for the same reasons you are getting your daughter one, and I have learned a lot about these cars. Yes they are good in snow, as good as any FWD car can be (if it is a turbo model however it will be very easy to break traction). As for reliability I believe the 99-00 S/V70 were a bit of a headache compared to the 850 and 98 S70/V70. They ETM can go (covered under a recall I believe) and they tend to have some electrical issues.Personally I am looking at '97 850s and '98 S/V70s, those are the best years IMO for these cars. PK44
What's the RMS cost to fix at a Volvo dealer? I know my friend had to do one shortly after buying a 96 850 with 78,000 on it. I have a good local mechanic (former Volvo dealer tech) who is usually 30 to 40% cheaper than the dealers. He treats me well seeing I have three older Volvos. I'm a good customer! If I can find a 96 or 97 850 or 98 s70 with decent miles on it I prefer it but they are hard to come by in CT. SkyWriter
Thanks for all the input. Nuff said! I'm buying a 2002 S60. good idea. i just got a S70 T5. i don't like it, but it's only for the winter while my S80 is getting an overhaul. i had a 740 N/A wagon for many years, with good snow tires is was great in the snow.
