2000 V70 Xc With 130k Miles *to Buy Or Not To Buy*

Hey everyone,

Me again. Although I am looking at buying the 2001 V70 with the Carfax "Buyback" alert (see posting below) I was also looking at two local 2000 V70 XC's with approx. 130K going for $6,000. What issues should I be concerned with these cars with such mileage? Is it worth it for $6K? Or should I go for the 2001 V70 T5 with 60K at $9,700 but having the Buyback alert on Carfax for "check engine light". I need to make a decision very soon!

Thanks once again!

Larry

Personally I wouldn't buy an XC with 130K miles on it regardless. The '01 is risky but might be a good deal depending on condition. If the trans has been flushed a time or two and had the stop-neutral software removed that will reduce your risk. You don't say what was done to the ETM, but if it was just software update, you can expec the thing will probably still fail by 100k. Fortunately Volvo extended warranty on that to 200K or some such. If it were me I would ask the seller to let me take it home and give it a thorough inspection. If you don't know what to look for take it to a mechanic who knows these cars. See if the dealer that did the buyback can pull full service history from the VIN. If you find drive train abuse walk away. Even if it has clean service record there's a good chance you'll have problems, but at that price you can afford a few.

Good luck.

2001 V70XC 140,000 miles...Wife mobile.

Tranny flush last summer, ETM cleaned this summer. New plugs this Fall. oil change every 3K.

Car is great. We have owned since 70,000. Standard maintenance. I wish I could say the same for my S80T6.

Good luck

I should add that I did have to send the ABS controller to Victor this summer. All is well.
