jeffo
Have a drivetrain whine that is road-speed dependant. It starts out faintly at ~ 25 mph and increases slightly in pitch and dB to ~ 40 mph, after which it seems to disappear. It only whines (think straight cut gears, but not as exteme) when drivetrain is under load, i.e. steady or increasing throttle. Letting off throttle, the whine goes away. Shifting into neutral the whine goes away.Whine stays the same regardless of gear upshifts/downshifts or engine rpm.Whadya think, transmission or tires? Guest Guest_Valvo_*
Hi Jeffo,Found this in Nov 2000 Popular Mechanics when I was researching a similar problem with my '96 850•Does your 1996-99 Volvo 850/70 Series whine from the final-drive? It may need a driveshaft damper retrofit, or you may have to replace it with an entirely new damper. TSB 4-43-0011. http://www.popularmechanics.com/how_to_cen...001.html?page=2My car was under warranty and they fitted a damper (rubber harmonic balancer) to the L.H. driveshaft fixed the problem for awhile but it only appears on hot days now (it's 38deg C in sunny Sth Australia now)cheers.....Valvo
