Asinine
Background:A few weeks ago a buddy of mine came over in his Saffron C70 (T5-M, that be paid $5kcdn for - suck it Ed!) with what I thought were 'Giant' brakes. I was later told that they were OEM and they'd fit my car with relative ease, and for cheap, and with the stock wheels (16" Columbas).About two weeks ago I absolutly finished one of my front right pads and had been grinding to a stop. That and mildy warped rear rotors and non-OEM squeaky rear pads I decided to do brakes all around, with the 302 kit.Parts - prices are employee discount and CDN$272276 - Rotors (302) - 52.49 per8251319 - V70R Front Carriers - 37.67 per30648381 - Pads (stock for 850 and R) - 58.54 per sideHere's the old rotor (with the dead pad) on top of the new 302:Everything was pretty much a bolt on type of deal, until it came time to put the Columba back on, because, well, it didn't fit. Here's the caliper before 'modification':Here's the caliber after 'modification':And here's a poor shot of the wheel with a 500watt light behind it. That grinding too the caliper goes to the side of the columba with about the thickness of a dime to spare and is right close to the inside face of the rim as well.I have a before of the wheel in the light, but haven't taken an after yet, but they look awesome and feel so strong. Although part of the reason they feel so strong is that for about 2 weeks I was braking with pretty much one front wheel and two rears! If anyone decides to do this, worry not about grinding the caliper. The thing is SO beefy and there is plenty of metal left to do it's thing. Also, DO use a grinder and not a file. I was using an agressive file for about 3 hours on the right hand side and still needed the grinder for the last attempt, and only spent 25 minutes on the left hand side using the grinder than the hand file to make it pretty. Now my Columbas are winter wheels (new rubber this weekend I hope), and I'll have to sort something out for the summer! Best of luck. For the cost of the carriers, this is a pretty sweet mod.

Asinine
Like i said, it's more about the price than the concept itself.
Greenchunks
I thought a bracket what need to move out the caliper so it makes better contact with the new larger rotors? I know theres a part number for said bracket. How come it wasn't needed here?
laird
This is a good post. All of the 302mm kits claim they won't work with 16's (obviously they don't) and this shows a great way to do it. I would love to get some of those hangers for $37, the dealer here wants $104 for them.
Geevs
Yeah, what's the "carrier" thing? Is that the bracket needed to upgrade 280mm to 302mm? If so, that's a heck of a deal per piece - FCP sells them for near a hundred each.

If so, that's a heck of a deal per piece - FCP sells them for near a hundred each."Parts - prices are employee discount"That's the main reason for the ultra cheap price. Also, there is a core charge when you buy just the brackets of I believe $30-$35 EACH. But when you have 280s and need 302s you obviously don't have a core, so you have to eat the $35. That is the reason why they are $90 per bracket at FCP, ebay, etc.
Karlson
Nice, Thanks Greg. I almost put my 302 brackets into trash can, but now I can sell them!

Asinine
My dude at the volvo dealership said that Volvo has recently reduced their OEM brake prices.Let me tell you, including 14% sales tax in Ontario Canada I paid 449.16 for 2 rear rotors, 2 302mm front rotors, 2 x70R carriers (moves the calipers), 2 sets of front brake pads - OEM for 850 & core deposits, which i don't get back.So not worrying about core deposits, it's still a great / afforable upgrade! gdizzle
I think I hear 2003 calling.. would have been much cooler if you did the factory 330mm(or was it 320mm? I can't remember either way, cooler) brake upgrade. :monkey:
larryo108
It was a 320mm brake caliper for the factory bigger brakes Greg. The 302mm's have been around for a while. I had them on my car for 4 years before I just recently did the Porsches. For all you newbs who are wondering which Volvo 16" wheels this works with, TME used to have that info on their website. I actually bought my mounting brackets from iPd a couple of months before they brought their kit to market. Stupid Larry.
Asinine
Granted, bigger is always better, but, having 17s and/or 18s with snows is just plain stupid. Now i can throw some winters on these rims, and hook up new shoes in the spring!on a related note - i may have some 15" steelies for sale to any local dudes or dudettes.
