Background Search On A T-5r

Hello all.

I have found a yellow T-5R i believe i am going to buy.

I want to know if there is any good way to track down service information or owner information to find out what has been done to the car as far as service and maintenance.

The car was a one owner car and the owner took the veh from Floriday to Cali. That person owned the car up until middle of this year and i believe traded it in. The place that has it now bought it from an auction and does not have any paper work on it. I have a carfax, but it does not have any history on service or repairs to it.

Did someone here trade on in this year in orange county, CA? If so, let me know if you think it may be your old one and we can try to verify this.

The carfax looks great as does the car, but i just want to see if there is a way to search for the original owner or for service history.

I have contacted Volvo North America and they only told me about a couple maintenances, but no warranty.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

Nick

It is very unlikely that you will be able to find service records even if the car was serviced at a Volvo dealer since dealer computers are not linked.

How many miles does this car have. I recomend taking it to a mechanic and getting a pre buyers inspection......

could you try tracking down the VIN from Volvo america to the original dealer - approach them for some of the service details?

A pre-purchase inspection from a specialist is essential.

I already have the VIN, and have contacted Volvo about this already. I also have the carfax which is clean and carfax guaranteed.

When i have the car inspected, should i take it to a volvo dlr for that or who? what can i look at to make sure it is good? i am a certified tech and automotive engineer, but i have no experience with volvos so i don't know what to look for as far as problem areas.

Thanks guys

The car has 96k miles on it and was a one owner car. it appears to be in great condition, but this is in pictures.

any suggestions on what to look for as far as trouble areas?

Thanks

Hey this is the car in Houston correct? Well, I looked at the car the very first day it went on autotrader. IDK IMO there are some things that seem fishy about it, it has a bit of over spray under the car, it is definitely been re-painted in one area and one wheel liner is stripped and it has minor rust spots inside like right one the welds...it has a CEL on and ABS but those things are minor BS but they can cost some $$ to correct it, I'd pick this up a LONG time ago, but again some things are making me go

whatever you do! Good luck.

Get Volvo North America to tell you where the car was serviced. Then call that dealer and asked them to fax you the service records. They can black out the prior owners name/address/phone so they don't violate any privacy laws.

How did the car run?

any thing in the way it performed that made you think twice or just the other things.

You can pull the miles out of the OBD easily to verify the miles. Do a search in here and there is info about how to do it.

If you are an engineer and cert auto mechanic just look for all the regular stuff but pay attention to:

-Rear Main Seal for leaks.

-Turbo and components for leaks.

-body, repaint etc.....

I was planning on checking those things, i just was wondering if there are any T-5R specific issues or 850 issues I should keep my eye out for.

Thanks for the info

Nothing I am particularly aware of on T-5R's specifically. Basically the same car as a Turbo, just a little dressed and spiced up in some areas that really aren't anything that "wears". I have learned to not trust Carfax's. Someone can wreck a car and rebuild it themselves and just not report it to insurance, for example if they only had protection on "the other driver" and ran their car into a poll, wall, barrier, etc and just did not report it as insurance wouldn't have helped them anyway. 96K miles is believable, but I'd still use the OBD to check just to clear the air there.

Only thing to keep in mind is that if a car seems fishy or there are some signs of body work, that should be a major flag! Why would someone repaint part of a car? Because there was something wrong with it! Why would a fender liner look screwy? Because something happened to the first one! My 850 has 149K and it's fender liners don't look fishy. Why? Because it hasn't been in an accident and there's really no other decent reason to replace one. If you do purchase the car or go look at it, always be cautious - very cautious.

Did you really just buy that car or did you put a deposit to hold it?

that guy wanted me to send him $1k to hold the car. I dont think so.

IF you did buy it, congrats and hopefully nothing is really too bad on it. It sure did look sweet in the pics though :(
