Wastegate Actuator Upgrade - Wow

I am going to be swapping out my stock 15G soon, but decided to have a little fun first.

I got a good deal on a shiny new 300/70 wastegate actuator (i.e. from a 19T and some 18Ts) and swapped it onto my stock 15G. Let me just say WOW. With the weak stock actuator, boost would fade at WOT and high rpms big time. I have a BSR stage 3 ECU BTW. Anyways, between shifts it would fade from 18psi to 12psi and finally 9psi. With the stronger actuator it holds like a rock at 15psi until redline. It still fades from 18psi, but that is just the 15G running out of breath.

Also, part throttle boost is totally transformed. Boost comes on very smooth and very strong. The car is a complete blast to drive. Best $100 I ever spent.

I had none on my 19T either.. But I don't attribute it to the actuator really.

Though, we did see an improvement (a slight one) on Brendan's wagon after we put a 16T actuator on in place of the stock 15G one.

now see .. the 16t actuator on my car would boost up to 10psi untill 4500 where it would just take off to 20+ psi after that

removed it and used a std 10psi t3 actuator and a new bracket and it is now rock solid boost wise. then again all of this was only after i did a 3.5" downpipe as with the 3" it was not an issue. i just do not understand why the white blocks lose boost with rpm and my car gained it on the same turbo

Correct. Part number according to the "FAQ look here before asking" sticky is:

9471535 - 300/70 wastegate

The nice thing is that the 300/70 acuator is available seperately from Volvo. I am pretty sure that the other ones are not and must be purchased as part of the turbo assembly. I am not 100% sure on that but I know for a fact the 300/70 is available seperately.

Which 16T? Angled or straight? Because the wg on my straight flange 16T was identical to the one on the 15G (wg specs are stamped on the bottom). I wonder if the improvement you saw was just the tired 10 year old 15G actuator being replaced with a new(er) one.

Glad you are happy with it greg! I still have one on my 16T that has been pulled off for the 19T and I shared the exact same observations you do. AS for part numbers I only have a picture of the back of the wastgate with some random number on it :89-18952 and 8Z1

Maybe its cuz im only running 13 psi, but my car holds perfect boost with no creep to redline, and shows no fade anywhere between shifts or anything. 16T (striaght outlet I think was what the 98's had, right?)

Correct on both fronts. Lower boost level is easier on the whole system and doesn't create enough stress to realize boost fade(on your particular car on your particular setup, other cars and turbos vary). And yes you have a straight flange 16T. :)
