New Turbo Being Fitted

Hi,

I received a nice turbocharger in the mail today. It is a Mitsubishi TD05L 16G Evo 3.

So far, I think it will be worth all that trouble and will be a lot cheaper than other upgrades. I put it beside my 16T and the 16G is not a lot bigger in size. I don't think it will require to grind the tranny mount as the compressor housing sits at the same height and is about the same diameter as the 16T. The compressor inlet is also the same diameter.

The center housing is bigger in size. Our return line bolts there, hole diameter and bolt spacing is the same. The oil inlet is also the same diameter, just a different thread pitch. Only coolant holes are bigger.

The turbo will need to be clocked differently but that's the least of my worries.

I was going to put a new downpipe to install the 16T to upgrade the 15G and decided that while I am at it, I should just upgrade to a turbo that I won't have to upgrade later. This particular Evo turbo is known to get full spool by 3000 rpm and support over 20 psi easy.

If someone can give me some hints about this swap, go ahead. If someone needs pictures or information, just ask.

Pierre

there are a few threads right now about people swapping to a 16g at the moment. it seems to be a good sized turbo with good power numbers. i think torquesteer and turbor850 have used or are using similar turbos. talk to them. hope the install goes well.

 You didn't see that big of a difference? I saw a huge one between Ben's 16G and my 19T.

Here's pics Ben (Torquesteer) took of his Hahn Racecraft 16G compared to my 19T.

There is a difference in compressor wheel diameter. On these pictures, the compressors are quite similar looking.

In your pictures, the turbine housing is a lot larger than mine. Maybe it has to do with the fast spooling.

The wastegate are about the same diameter too 16T vs 16G. Not a huge difference.

hehe, the exhuast housing on his is MUCH bigger than yours. about 3cm^2 larger if i recall correctly. the regular 16g evoIII is 7cm^2 the hahn super 16g is 10cm^2

They are not similiar in size. Sorry. (19t vs 16g hahn)

I said the compressor where similar, not the whole turbo.

Those aren't that simliar either. I think you need to see them in person to really grasp the difference.

I don't care. I just said they were SIMILAR in the PICTURE judging from the size of the compressor.

I never tried to judge any of the above turbos with their external dimensions. Read my first post and what I tried to say is that because of it's size, there won't be clearance problems with the tranny mount VS 16T because they look similar.

Ignore from here:

Anyway my english is far from perfect and I know some people here can't read and that I should have never said a 16T is similar to a 16G and a 19T is not similar to a hahn and breast are bigger in real VS on computer screen and the 16T is big and the 15G is ok to 28 psi at 8500rpm and that the return hose will be long enough to lube my wheel bearings.

Thanks,

Pierre

LOL you guys badger people to death over nothing.

Pierre, please keep us up to date with your project as it sounds very interesting :)

FWIW the "Evo 3" 16G is one of the preferred turbos to use in Sweden on stock 850 engines... Comparable to 18T IIRC, very good match!

Is anyone else on here running the Evo3 16g? TorqueSteer and Fiore are both running the Hahn Racecraft 16G right?

Jeremy is as well in his manual 850.

I think there's another guy on here with a similar such 16G as well, one of the faster ones ;)
