Recommending Volvo Shop In Austin, Texas

Hey I just had a really good experience with the Austin V Shop here in Austin, Texas, and I wanted to pass along the recommendation. Andy the owner took time to answer all my questions and was willing to take over my fuel pump replacement where I left off because I could not get the tank ring to seal without the proper tool. A lot of places would not touch something that is basically taking used parts in to have them installed (the dealer sure won't). He turned it around in a day and the price was VERY reasonable. He also was able to disable my DRLs via VADIS which he has. Top marks for humoring my neophyte Volvo knowledge and griping about how different these things are from all my other Fords. Call Andy at 512-250-5353 or they have a pretty nice website at austinvolvo.com. Thanks, Andy!!

I have had good experiences there too. Nice guy. How much did he charge to do the fuel pump if you don't mind my asking. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I should do mine myself.

I already had swapped out the pump I just couldn't get the ring tight enought to seal without breaking off the tabs. I did ask him to pull the pump and check the wiring (I got a little paranoid about there being electrical connectors INSIDE the tank) since I was using a used pump. So he R&R'd the pump to inspect the wiring and put it back together for $85. I took it to him with the back seat already out, tho.

If you want to do your own, I recommend you make or acquire a tool to remove/install the tank ring. Mine came off OK using a big screwdriver and a hammer, but it wouldn't tighten up that way. I later figured out the hot ticket is to put a ring of grease on the very bottom of the ring, where it contacts the top of the pump or ejector (depending on which side you are on), and then spray the threads with silicone. You also need to clean the threads real good before you reinstall because they usually have dirt/sand in them, at least mine did.
