was it one of the older ones? i thought you were talking about one of the newer c class amgs with supercharged v6. becuase i do remember there was a 95 amg c class that had slightly more hp then the volvo R but was a good 500 lbs heavier.

it was a newer one, supercharged 3.2 v6

Up to what speed? 30 mph?

Or what kind of mph starts to get "fast" over there

Hah...no.

For a dose of bench-racing for the evening, Motor Trend ran a 13.2 @ 103, and not only are their figures some of the slowest for any car published (I haven't checked what owners have run, nor would I ever take mine to the track), but from my experience, it's most likely a tick or two quicker and a good bit faster that that. These figures basically mimic those of a flawlessly-driven STi or Evo under perfect conditions.

There is not a Volvo here that will hang with a G55K from a dig, and from a roll, even the fastest cars here will have to play catch-up deep into triple-digits. Do I need to reiterate the fact that the barge in question is a 3-ton truck which I use to tow some of my other cars to the track?

Bull.

There's plenty cars here that would walk away from that overpowered shed from a roll 30-50mph roll.

You have an advantage from a dig because these volvos dont launch worth a damn. Is 103 mph an impressive trap speed now? Looking at the published 0-100mph time, I came within .5 of a second to 100 with my stock 15G turbo for crist sake. When you hit 100 anyone with half the horsepower and normal aerodynamics will fly away.

Wow, I thought you were smarter than that, to say an unqualified statement like this. I agree, from a dig it would be a challenge to keep up, but not keeping up with a 103 trap truck on a roll? Thats just nonsense.

oh it was definately an AMG, have you ever heard those things????

The supercharged v6 is quiet and not much difference can be heard between a NA model C-class.

For the record, the supercharger is barely audible. At speed an unmodified C32 is extremely quiet.

Do you think Mercedes would produce a luxury sedan that has significant engine noise?

Well, I have got to say in responce to the later comments of Volvo's not being fast enough to take on any AMG's. Oh well, look at these specs from a road legal racing volvo here in the UK:

850 T5

2.3l with too many mods to list, but power is around 750 bhp, and runs 0-60 in about 2 seconds, and top end around 200 mph......So, please tell me any AMG that has these specs??

Ps.. Also if memory serves well, when Volvo's started to race there cars in the touring competitions, they wipped the floor with every car on the track.

pps..Volvo's in general for their money are probably the quickest cars around, and you you can ask any volvo forums and they will probably agree......

ppps..Also I raced my c70 softop around Silverstone in the UK and baring in mind this car is a low pressure 2.4 turbo, and auto certainly blew past the likes of mx5's, porsche's, transam's, and other moded cars...But now I have my car moded, I can't wait to see the difference this makes....

Yeah I raced some clk430 regardless of AMG status, and that stuff just wasn't messin around.

Wow...comparing a race-prepped car to once from the factory. Now that makes sense!:lol:

FWIW, any V12TT Mercedes, AMG or not (meaning SL600, SL65, S600, S65, CL600, CL65) on proper tires, a tuned ECU/TCU, and aftermarket intake/exhaust available from a host of tuners will do 0-60 in under 3 seconds and 200+ MPH. And keep in mind...the car in question here is a bolt-on Mercedes with a full interior and a curb-weight of over 4400 lbs. with every single luxury offered from the factory, not a purpose-built car.

A FWD car doing 0-60 in "2 seconds"? Riiight.

Ask Rosie O'Donnell's lover who she thinks is the most attractive heffer in the world. Care to guess what her answer will be?

Volvo's for the money are the quickest cars around? That has got to be one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard. I'm almost embarrassed to respond to such a claim. I guess this explains why you see so many Volvos cleaning up on track days and holding titles in SCCA competitions.:lol:

Then you, my friend, were racing around with a bunch of rookies. I was beating every single car that showed up at any Northern California NASA track-event in a 225 hp, 20 year-old Toyota Corolla. That point is moot.

I have a C70 (hardtop). I know what the car is and is not capable of. I can tell you that on a track with anyone who can drive their way out of a paper bag, a C70 will not keep up with any factory car where the engineers had "performance" in their top-5 list of priorities.

What a joke. :lol::lol: :lol:

Fact is that allmost every AMG kills a Volvo. Even a 2.7 CDI is hard to kill. Some people need to do a trip to Germany. You will wonder how many fast cars are around there.

Sam

True enough. You need extensive modding to stay with a 10 year newer german sports sedan...I played with an S55 AMG early last year and it was close. He walked away 1 car length or so between 150 and 240 kmh.

A8 4.2 was slightly slower than me up to 220 kmh where it slowly gained..

I also raced a 535d once, dead equal....fast buggers those diesels. Of course these were all still on the 15G turbo, races will be different with my current T3/T4.

[Firstly, I got to say that what is an AMG then, if not a racier version of the mercedes class!!! and bare this in mind that yes merc's has had racing experience as well, and also compare the prices of the sl55 amg or the sl65 amg. All I am saying that engine cc is not everyting, and for the money Volvo's do a good job. I did not state that a Volvo would blow an amg away especially a standard one, but the amg would not blow a volvo away!!!

Yeah you do get the refinement of the amg class, but if your comparing weights, then I'm pretty sure as a standard volvo would surely be more heavier and of course less cc for the buck. I have had numerous races with some big end cars for etc porsche boxter s, 911, tvr griffith, some big merc's, m3, 540i, 750i, and the volkswagon 6lt pheaton, amongst others and got to say that they certainly did not blow me away, even if my car is standard...

0-60 in 2 seconds, why not?, you obviously have not seen one do it, so your quick to dissmiss it.....

This volvo that I stated that was quick, is driven by an ex volvo touring car driver, and he certainly knows how to handle his car that i first stated. Fact is that he went round Brands Hatch here in the UK quicker in the wet, than the super bikes do it in the dry, and he holds the record for it as well....Facts, not fiction.....Must be one pretty quick VOLVO then.....

Also he has a friend that has the quickest subaru impreza, and took the two cars down a drag strip, well the scuby done it in around 9 seconds, and the volvo done it quicker.....

I stated that when volvo's first came out in the touring car scene they wipped the floor with everything, but would you say that a touring car is slow then, baring in mind that it is a front wheel drive car??? like to see any merc keep up with one of those.lol, raced merc or not......I think not..

So who is Rosie O'Donnell's lover ??

Ok, name a car that for the price of a new say s60r or the new s80 v8 4.4 monster or even a T5 could beat these cars??? And bare this in mind that it is a family to executive car and not your typical sports car!!!!

Ok, firstly there were some professionals on the circuit driving the likes of tvr's, lotus ellise's, and tuned up skyliner's with between 800-1000 bhp, and obviously i did not keep up with these animals, but i did not do to bad. Also here in the UK, police on our motorways mainly use volvo t5's, so why would they use them over the likes of bmw diesel's and alike or even your merc's??? stands to be obvious to me....

And if im correct, volvo's are really heavy. Take mine, over 2 tons with all the refinements you could ask for, and one of the safest cars around. They lead the forefront in safety!!!!!

All these are my points of views, and everyones entittled to theirs!!!!

i'm not disputing the claim but am wondering why i havent heard of this volvo before
