Hilton
I didn't touch the stock exhaust at all. In the case that I absolutely HATE the 3" turbo back setup I wanted to be able to go completely back to stock. The flange I cut off of another piece of exhaust. I welded it onto a piece that had roughly the bend that I wanted. I welded it on the inside of the pipe so that the "other piece" would be able to turn allowing adjustment of the down pipe. The flange had to be ground a little to allow the bolts clearance. Also in the above picture you can see where I dented in the area beneath the third hole to allow a socket clearance. remember that on the "other piece" the holes have to be elongated stretched out. The downpipe took the most amount of time. The only other hard part was going from the section after the muffler to the tip.

USMC850T
Hmm. I'm going to make the bend down and back with a much larger radius. Where do i find the actual flange if i'm not going to slice it?
fromtheshadows
Looks like it will work just as good as it's suppose to, a few angles toward the end tof the dp, but eh they shouldnt affect the flow, 3 inches is more than we need anyway. Nice work man.
r0k0
how long did it take to put it in , in just one piece like that....?or did you weld it in place after the installation...?
ViperVette
Nice man. That downpipe is hilarious. But it works and with the black paint you can barely notice! Good job.
NataSS Inc
We have any sound clips of this yet? And what kind of gains do you think this will give you?
Hilton
The car still isn't back together. Yesterday I put the intake manifold back on, put plugs in, put the thermostat housing back on (always do this before putting the intake manifold back), and a bunch of other little things like distributer, cam position sensor, plug wires, thermostat, couple of hoses... Today is my daughters first birthday and tomorrow is our fifth wedding anniversary. Maybe this weekend I'll be able to finish.Yes, my yard is in pretty bad shape. It's been pretty cold here lately. Almost below freezing! The exhaust has two places where it's held together by clamps. I want to be able to remove it easily. The first is directly in front of the flex pipe. The second is on the other side of the axl before the tip.
POOKDIZZLE
I thought a flex pipe was pretty much mandatory up near the turbo
Hilton
The flex is fine. Thanks for the concern.I forgot to address the gains question. I have no idea what kind of gains the exhaust will have. I built it as a "ah, why not". Everybody needs a hobby right? Plus, we're all going to have to learn how to weld sooner or later. Hilton
Here's where we are now. Still needs oil, coolant, turbo hoses, air box, a 90 bend that I broke to hell, and a dipstick (owned by gravity). The line going to the passenger side of the intake manifold seems to have disappeared. I'll probably find it later. Not to start any arguements that have already been fought 100 times, but I removed the secondary air system. We don't have very strict emisions here and I have no cat anyway... so what's the point? A check engine light? I'm probably going to have so many check engine lights that my dash will look very festive around the holidays.Speaking of which, I zip tied the second O2 sensor to the front sway bar. (in before the "it's going to pull timing and turn on 'limp home mode'" because it's won't)I'm getting really excited about this. I want to again say thank you to Mike (Thelostartof) for all the help. Sound clips and video to follow... eventually.
