haven't done anything major but thought i'd update you. i cut one coil off the rear springs, it's sitting a bit better but i'd rather cut another one off tbh. i wont do that though until i get some wheels so i can see how it sits with those.

took off the "volvo"and "850" badge from the back but left the T-5 and painted the front grille. come out nicely i think. any donations for wheels or exhaust feel free :D

been doing some searches and will probably cut half a coil or a full one, what do you guys think?

don't cut down springs! oh, too late. Are you lowering just for looks, or for handling/ride?

Suggest you buy a set of purpose-built springs for your vehicle (eg Eibachs), rather than compromising the safety of your vehicle (and your family) by hacking bits off a suspension system that has had thousands of hours and huge resources in design/engineering/manufacturing invested in it. Not to say that your car's suspension can't be improved on with care and attention, for a given set of parameters; you'll get better results with a considered approach rather than the 'angle-grinder under the arches'. what did you find the cut coils give you? And now how does it perform in the same conditions, but fully laden?

By the looks of the height, you're not suffering the tail-dragging nivomat syndrome! I guess not all 855-T5's run nivomat then! Lucky you.

I think your black grille looks pretty cool. Did you paint it, or get it powder-coated? Did you strip the chrome finish first?

Which tyres are you running?

BTW - if you've adopted the T5 for family transport, were you aware there are tether-strap mounts for child seats built-in to the rear seats?

cheers

'Olaf'

PS - your main pics remind me of where I used to live in north london #; )

not too worried really olaf, the car is handling pretty well at the moment. i done many searches regarding cut springs and the general consensus was that 1 or 2 coils is fine but not any more then that.these coils were meant to lower the car, they did on the front, i think they raised the front so i'm not too sure about the millions invested in this set up lol.

i havent actually got the car aligned yet after lowering it, so it can get very twitchy at about 85mph but tracking will sort that. on low speed bends the car hangs on very well, push too hard and the front will start sliding, let go of the gas and the front comes in, or even just turn the steering more and it grips and again the front comes back in. took it out with a passenger who owns a lancia integrale and even he came away quite surprised.

tyres on it are a legacy of the previous owner ie. crap fuldas on the front and pirelli 6000s on the back. when they're worn enough to warrant changing i'll either have 17s on by then or will go for goodyear eagle F1s. they have been the only tyre i'll go out and buy with my own money.

sprayed the grille. you used to live in north london?

Beautiful car and colour. We get alot of the 'greys' down here too.

I'm not one for cutting springs either, i'm a believer of the mighty expensive coil-over system if you're into lowering for aesthetics. My car's rear also didn't change much in height, but the spring rate helped the suspention and handling a whole bunch. I also load the car on occasion, ...

I envy you guys who are able to drive to RICA in the Netherlands, and Nurburg. I don't envy your weather however :P
