Über855R
Just like the title says, does anyone make a nice high efficiency race type radiator for volvo 850. Or know of a reputable place to have one fabbed, hopefully locally? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

94turbo
What kind of radiator do you have in there now?
TorqueSteer
Something with welded endtanks would be awesome, and save us money in the long run because we wouldnt have to replace the radiator every year due to the busted plastic endtanks.rod davis makes some of the best out there ... they are out here in AZ. if someone wants to send me a stock rad i can take it to them and ya'll can have them make a bunch of drop in custom cores

For the price of oil and ATF coolers + what an all AL unit is going to cost you can replace the radiatior many a time. Get a price quote and then see if you guys can make the minimium buy. If you can I have a few cores I cans send your way.
thelostartof
yea thier parts are not cheap but they are high quality, i've heard a few talks about 350-400$ but they would cool for more hp than anyone here would make. adding oil and trans coolers can be fairly cheap ($100 each or less) but the big oversized rad is not really needed sans for having nice endtanks that will/should never break/leak

And thats because I took it off roading. So for a custom radiator your looking at 600 + say 50 to have the correct fittings installed to use the OEM lines. In my mind thats 650 dollars too many to gain 0hp. But if you guys want to do it I can supply a core.
thelostartof
i'm with ya on that .. how many of these 850's ever have over heating issues? the rads are good sized as is, and a new volvo core is only like $200 (well i think the nissens ones are liek $170 and they are a pretty good brand) ... figure every 5 years if you replaced it that is not that bad. i am going to get a custom rad tho i live in AZ and have more space for a larger rad so i want one .. plus my car is a track car and extra cooling is good.but for most all here who just DD and street race their cars ... no need
Über855R
I am definitaly down but I need something that incorporates the the stock cooler lines for oil and tranny fluid. It just seems like a waste to replace with stock. so what if its 3x the money Is there some kind of problem with fabbing up a metal endtank rad as a direct replacment? My level ten trans doesn't like an external cooler I need to utilize the factory coolling setup if possible. Anyone up on the pros and cons? BeachRat
I have a spare core sitting in my shed right now. I'm about 45-50 mins drive from their plant (almost did this myself, backed out for reasons Chuck stated above). Let me know if you're serious, we can work something out where I drop a core off them to mock up.
spottieottie
I've talked to them extensively, price is around 1K for a 100% all aluminum tig welded radiator with 1 oil cooler for turbo engines. The auto guys will be another $150 for a trans cooler or you could use an external cooler. ;)
