Which Subwoofer In 850 Turbo?

I had done some research and picked out a kit from Crutchfield consisting of a Stage II Rockford Fosgate and a 10 inch sealed box along with a ~200 watt amplifier to go in the trunk of my car. I went by CarToys on an unrelated mission and decided to get their recommendations. The guy said that since Volvo's are so well put together (playing to my ego) he suggested at least a 12 inch ported sub with 300 watts of power to it. I know he is probably trying to oversell me by quite a bit, so I was wondering what you guys have in your car and what you're happy with. I am not looking for an overabundance of bass, but would rather have tight and accurate bass. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

in my car I have a 10" infinity sub, sounds great and isn't too powerful. it has enough bass that you're not wondering if its on, but you can still hear your treble and mid tones just fine.

I don't think I'll move to a bigger sub, it balances out perfectly in my opinion.

A sealed 12 able to handle ~300-350 RMS and around 85 or better dB efficiency. Ideally the FR would dip below 20Hz, but up to 30Hz will be fine. You could go less, but really the price difference between a 10 and a 12 is usually pretty small. The dealer cost on 10s and 12s are sometimes even the same price.

The brand is really less important than the performance. That's not to say that paper performance always lives up to real world performance, either.

Pick your sub first. Enclosure and amp are dependent on the driver. Most kits are far from a bargain or a deal unless you just want something quick and easy and don't really care.

Well by kit I meant that I went through and picked a driver, and enclosure and an amp. I guess kit isn't exactly the right word. I'm glad to hear that 10 inches is enough as I didn't want to end up being one of those kids that go bumping down the street blowing out the glass on other people's cars.

Don't get wrapped up on size. In a fairly basic ABC chambered box you can get an efficient 5.25 to over 100 db. Granted a 6 inch and an 18 inch driver will reproduce the same freq in noticeably different ways, but size doesn't determine volume.

I made a very basic box in my spare tire well for 2 8" RE subs, works great.

2-12s and 300watt amp

all rockfordfosgate :)

thats in my wagon

DSCN0433.jpg

in the wifes I have

1- 10" Kove Amagedon Series

1-500watt Phoniex Gold Amp

that hits so hard you eyes vibrate

in my old 850 and my cousins 850

1-12 Phoniex Gold Sub

1- 300watt Phoniex Gold amp

that sounded great

but it all depends how much you want to hear and feel.

300watts is a good hear and feel

500 watts is a great feel and and vibrate the crap out of you

anything louder and your sounding like your typical ricer

and the amp is mounted upside down under the floor under the sub box , another reason why Wagons are the best :) LOL

eventually I will take some pics and show you also got some blue leds back there to :)
