i found a car im interested in buying and i was wondering something. Did they make a GLT "R" model ?

the guy doesnt have a pic of it but he said it has round driving lights down in the spoiler and i was wondering if thats an R option or just an option on the GLT's or what ?

1995 GLT's have no turbo. Look for that distinctive turbo pipe that goes over the engine spark plug cover, towards the right in this picture. Fog lights are an option on the GLT's. Even 'R' front spoiler can be swapped later on.

alvin.... i asked incorrectly.. they have it listed as a 850 turbo ( no GLT ).. the problem is the car is about 100 miles from me and no pic, im having to ask the guy to describe it to me. all i know is the car has round lights built into the front spoiler.

I believe 1995 850 turbos came with fog lights as standard equipment.

Suggest you ask him for the VIN number and he should be happy to give it to you. There's a pinned link to a member who is offering to check out the carfax for you. It helps but don't rely on it. Best to have the car checked out. If you can get to the car, look for diagnostic codes and confirm mileage (pinned post under 'Useful threads...').

As does mine, which is a Turbo, but the Mini Me's of Turbo, it's an LPT.

Run the VIN, anyone can change the way a car looks.

I believe if the vin has a "57" it is a "TURBO" model, and if it has "58" it is a "R" or "T-5" model. The difference between the two is low pressure and high pressure turbo respectively. (222hp vs 240hp)

I have a '95 850 Turbo, and I do not have fogs if that helps anyone...

Pics sell cars. Make sure you get the vin checked.

There are some people who are dishonest and try to sell salvaged cars as "clean". Sometimes, they don't describe glaring problems (broken body panels, etc.). You don't want to drive 100 miles and waste your time.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing, eh?

Maybe....

But I noticed in your sig, you have a "T-5" aka "R" and not the TURBO. I think fogs come stock w/ the "R"/"T-5".

But if the fogs come stock w/ the Turbo, that's pretty bad jerk. I wouldn't mind having some fogs...

Where did you get the idea that R's aren't turbos. They are THE performance, top-of-the-line cars that Volvo produces. It all started with the 1995 850 T-5R.

I have two 1995 T-5R's and they are 240hp vs 222hp for regular turbos, at that time. :) They were a limited production. Only 133 (or 131?) came to Canada and only in yellow. No blacks. That's the offical word. There may have been a few olive greens or blacks or whites but probably imported or Volvo Canada owned at the time.

1996/97 850 turbos are badged as T-5's. R's are known as 850R.

Sorry, I wasn't compeltely clear on my post.

I meant "not TURBO" as in the trim. So Turbo = 222 HP, and T-5/R = 240 HP (Difference of a chip).

it has a 57 in the vin so i guess its just a plain turbo ????

Yeah, as Alvin said, turbo is better than NA.

You have the 222 HP version of the turbo.

HUGE EDIT: So I was reading and there is a distinction between the T-5 and R.

From 93'-95' the "TURBO" is labeled the "base" model (Turbo badge on back) and this has 222 HP.

The 240HP version is called the T-5R.

In 96'-97', The "Turbo" aka "Base" became the T-5 (222HP).

The T-5R (240HP) just became the "R".
