What Would You Do

well when my engine wiring harness busted in flames it fried allot of stuff. i have replaced allot but now its just getting to be an irritation. suspension has been neglected along with little things but its winter and outside is the only place i have to work on my car and i am not so motivated. i have had the alternator rebuilt and it works but something is draining the battery. dead ground fried relay or something draining the battery.

edit. i was thinking i could get one with a blown engine for less than 1500. power steering parts, new suspension, random stuff and someone to figure out the electronics. who knows. maybe the same cost.

well you can think of it in a few ways, i'm sure you could find someone to off load that engine if its truly "built" (internals, head work e/t/c)

then just buy a daily driver

or just buy what you need to fix it up nice

why not buy another cheap 850, one in decent enough shape to get you through the winter that you can also pirate parts from to fix your current problem. or if the new car turns out to be in better shape then the current one you can just drive it until the weather gets nice and swap the engine and tranny over. this way you kinda cover both bases.

i know good 850s exist in the $1500 range; thats all mine cost. 143,000 miles, everything works fine, no major mechanical problems, just a pair of broken headlight lenses and a worn timing belt. i'm sure if you do decide to just swap the engine you could find a nice chassis for much cheaper then this even.

i will drop my engine out and sell you my car for 1500...its in good shape and all the electrical is 100%

I'd say fix it. Even if you do drop it in another 850, you're gonna have to do the same maintenance on it at some point. Why pay for a new(er) body just to end up doing the same thing you're looking at now anyway?

so really you're just venting your frustrations

yes, but i am also looking for my best option. I don't know how nanny times i have said i wanted to run it off a cliff. All problems started when i blew the 1st engine Christmas 05 and they haven't stopped.

yeah, a motor swap alone is going to take you most of the time it would take to fix all of your problems. Also the cost of a donor car or a replacment body will easily offset the cost of parts to fix yours. If you are really serious about it take apart the interior sound deaden the inside replace any panels you feel necessary reupholster, fix said mechanical problems and bam. Its like you have a brand new car. At least I know that is in my cars future someday. Although its pretty good right now.
