Reasons Why My Scanner Says "no Codes Found"

Any takers? Long story short, my CEL came on during an 800 mi trip home from buying my 850R, 3 months ago. I have since replaced the PCV system because of other issues I found, (and recommendations from you guys). Everything is together now, it runs and shifts awesome, and I cleared the codes. (only code that showed up was P0123, related to the TPS not being connected completely).

But the Check Engine Light is still on! Why?!?!?! The scanner's supposed to reset that light when codes are cleared. Is there something non code related that could trigger the light?

The light never went away when I cleared the codes, and the P0123 code tripped the trans arrow light, so it may be from the TCU. Does the TCU have a separate plug, or should tranny codes come through the main OBD2 on the console?

I use a ScanGuage2 and love it.

You would have to have a Volvo scantool to pull trans codes.

Tranny codes come through the obd2 port. The tcu tells the ecu to trip the cel. Unfortunately you've always had to have a shop with the Volvo scantool read/resest the code like zappo said ... unless what is posted below REALLY works.

I just read about it this AM, but if you have a decent laptop,

This is looking pretty cool! $49.00 bucks on ebay!

I would love to know if this really works. I have an srs code with my driver's seatbelt in the V70 that I can't read with my scanner, and I don't want to pay my indie mechanic $50 every time to read it while I'm determining what is wrong.

Darn you Volvo!!!

My laptop will run that FCR software fine, if that's what you're referring to. There was a bunch of stuff on that link you gave. If it wasn't coming from Hong Kong, I'd get it right now. I just have too much ebay experience to not be skeptical about HK shippers. I'll keep watching and if it comes up from somewhere else, I'll gladly cough up the $50. I haven't even checked to see where my nearest Volvo dealer is, but there isn't one in my city.

What about the "disconnect the neg. battery cable and hold down the brake pedal for a minute" trick? Does that work on OBD2 cars? After searching all day on this topic, I found several threads that mention that procedure for resetting the ECU and TCU. I'll try this evening.

I might try making that just to see if I can do it right. I love little workarounds like that, makes me feel like I'm cheating  But if it doesn't read the TCU codes, then it doesn't do me much more good than the scangauge I'm using.

Either way, on the way home tonight I got carried away and had to hit the brakes hard in order to make my turn, and it tripped code P0440, just like it did to beachnut and others. Imma go check vac lines (again), clear the codes, and try out the reset routine to get the car through all of it's self tests. THEN I'll worry again about the CEL from TCU.

Man, stage 0 for me has been a constant one step forward two steps back ordeal. But in a weird way I kinda like it. I've learned more about this car in the 3 months I've owned it than I know about any of my other cars.

Haha, you must've dug that old thread up from ancient times! That did happen to me, and I don't know why it seemed to occur when I braked hard ... I think it was maybe coincidence? Anyway, I replaced the purge valve p/n 0280142300 from FCP Groton and all has been well ever since.
