Disabling Tracs

From personal exp alone, I say tracs is useless. Common sense keeps you safer, along with threshold breaking. But even aside of that, I found that once tracs did kick in during a slide that it was maybe a bit more dangerous. Then again this is only my own opinion. Also I would doubt tracs is keeping you from doing a burnout, but for the sake of your tires... maybe you shouldn't ;) Also IIRC all tracs does is apply the brakes. I think with ABS alone you are better off. :-\

What does threshold braking braking have to do with TRACs?

TRACS is supposed to stop you ... aide you in a slide. But if you threshold brake then you shouldn't be in that slide in the first place. IMHO.

TRACS is nothing more than a cheap substitute for an LSD.

It stops a spinning wheel from spinning.. Nothing to do with braking.

Finally! I was pretty sure TRACS and ABS were independent of each other. However, you do see the TRACS/ABS dash warning light if something's wrong because both systems work off wheel speed sensors. I believe both systems are in the ABS controller, that TRACS is not involved with the ECU. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

On my MY'95 TRACS does nothing more that reduce understeer. The solution I prefer is to simply not floor it when making a turn. I flick it on during rain as well, though I'm not sure if it helps much there. Peace of mind, I guess.

Shhh leave him his Tracs fun with his mad threshold trac induced 4 wheel drift

No need to be a ass to me. Thanks. 4 wheel drfit... good one.

I do believe I have a vehicle with tracs.

From what i understand TRACS is not mechanical. Isn't an LSD mechanical?

Not what I want to hear Andy lol. If that is the case, how is TRACS controlled? How does it tell the ABS system to fire off one or both calipers?

TRACS uses the brakes to stop a wheel from spinning hoping the power which makes the wheel spin will be transferred through the open dioff to the other wheel.

This only up to 40 km/h with the the early systems.

With the newer systems like on the S60R the system will work all the time until the computer calculates that the brakes are to high in temperature. At this point the TRACS system will be shut down until the brakes a cooled down again.
